Posted almost 2 years ago In California, a new bill has been introduced to eliminate the death penalty. It is being watched closely. California's correctional system has been in "Receivership" for several years now related to court-ordered improvement of provision of health and mental health treatment for inmates. We know by federal statistics that at least 18-20% of inmates are mentally ill. The cost of housing and caring for death row inmates is considerably higher than general population inmates or other special needs inmates. With the appellate system to which inmates are entitled, the costs for death-row inmates become exponential. What are your thoughts? Jeanne Templeman, RN, CNS, LCSW |

| Posted almost 2 years ago Dear JTEMPLEMAN, I'm in Florida, and we have the Death Penalty. I don't see where it's deterring crime any, look at the Casey Anthony fiasco. I think back to the Old Testament in the bible, An Eye For An Eye. I'm not sure if it needs to be eliminated, though. There seems to be one horrific crime right after the next with no end in sight. I'm not opposed to letting the punishment fit the crime. If someone tortured a person before killing them then they shold suffer torture too before they die. I guess that might sound harsh, but the court system needs some revamping here in Florida. I'm disheartened by all the tragedies that have occurred in recent months, I saw on the news where a guy just went crazy and killed 3-4 people in their home. Anyway, that's my 2 cents and I'm sticking to it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

| Posted 6 months ago I am very relieved that it did not pass, the death penalty should be improved.... only allowing a decade for appeals on a case & then it would not be so expensive. -Angela--'--,--{@ |

| Posted 6 months ago Wow, this is a very dificult subject...I'm sure we all have our innermost answers.. To say that I believe that the punishment should fit the crime would be true.. But I think our judicial system has many flaws .. Also I think that the outcome can be altered by the almighty dollar.. So unless it can be proven that the verdicts are absolutely true and correct, then this argument will continue.. Teresa |
