| Posted almost 2 years ago An elderly, single gentleman,on his death bed was receiving primary care from the nursing staff,( LTC ). ** After being freshened-up,lotioned and repositioned for the family to visit with, he turns towards me, summons me to ," come closer". As I lean towards him,he whispers:" Would you be my wife,in the next world?" |

| Posted almost 2 years ago If you know me, you know I talk alot..Especially about my children and grandchildren...When I worked Trauma, the nurses were on a rotation sschedule to float to ICU, CCU, NICU etc. So it's my turn and I'm floated to ICU. I have a 26 y.o. female, on a vent, comatose s/p MVA with severe head injuries and no response to painful stimuli...When ever I was near her, around her or doing something for her, I would talk to her. I told her all about my children, my foster children and my grandchildren.. I would also tell her about what they were doing that day, whose going to Karate, whose going to football practice, etc.. I just chattered and chattered. I worked with her for about 1 week and really there was no change..Approx. 4-6 weeks later, I was in the elevator with another nurse and of course what was I talking about..You got it, my babies..There were other people on the elevator so I was talking softly. Some one behind me, tapped me on the shoulder and said "excuse me, have we met before?" I told her I wasn't sure because I saw so many peo[pple in the emergency room..She looked at me and said "have you ever worked in ICU?" I replied occasionally, I do...She proceeded to tell me about my children and all of the stories that I told to her..She said she had been in a car accident and had head injuries...My mouth dropped, and It all came together, that I had been her nurse.. She said that she couldn't wait for me daily to come and talk to her.. She said she was very scared at the time, but by talking to her, she would become calmer. By now, we are both in tears and to this day, we still correspond...God Love Her.. Hugs,Teresa |
