Posted almost 2 years ago Hi All Ok I need some outside input on this. Basically I am considered a Sophomore at the local Community College that I previously attended but never completed it in order to obtain an Associates degree in a major. I couldn't make my mind up as to what field I wanted to go into so i was just taking classes that would fall into either field that I decided on. Any way - I dropped out of school a few times due to medical issues with myself and my mother. In doing this I lost financial aid assistance and fail below academic standards. Currently, my transcript is on hold at this college until I resolve an issue I had with the financial aid department. During the past several months I have really thought more and more about the nursing field. There is alot I would need to do in order to get back into college but I am willing to do all that it takes. What I need some input on is this: since I am already considered a Sophomore (have taken 23 credit hours I believe) - wouldn't it be more reasonable to instead of going into an ADN program to go ahead and do the BSN program? |

| Posted almost 2 years ago Dear SOSWALT, You've answered your own question. You're right !!!! BSN would be the way to go. Just like you said in your post, you will need to do whatever it takes to get back into college, but GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not saying ADN is not as important, I have mine, but if I'd thought about how I might have wanted to teach nursing, I would have done the BSN option!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

| Posted almost 2 years ago My suggestion since you only have 23 credits (what are they? Algebra, Micro, Chemistry, Anatomy, Ennlish Comp?) is look at the requirements of the school you are interested in or talk to an advisor to see what classes you have taken go toward the nursing major. Many places, especially community colleges have specific prerequisites that you must complete before applying to their nursing programs. If you get an associate degree and pass the NCLEX your are still a licensed RN in most states I would assume. You can find work and many employers have tuition re-imbursement and will pay (at least partially) your continued education toward a BSN which will cost you thousands. You may have to work for them for a year or 2 afterwards. Hope that helps. Mike MichaelHertkorn |

| Posted almost 2 years ago Dear A Bit Confused,
I am like you and have complete some GE college credits towards my associate degree. I have taken Algebra, Anatomy, Bio, and Chemistry, english too. I unfortunately will have to repeat Anatomy and biology. Dont give up!!! Set your goal and follow thru! You can do it, believe and trust in your abilities! Hope all work outs for you. Best of Luck and good Positive Thoughts your way.

| Posted almost 2 years ago Hiya, What I would do if I was in your shoes, is to make an appointment with you class advisor and go over all of the credits that you have and all of the credits that are needed. As for the Financialyou may have to meet them too. If you received loans, the payback time is 6 months after graduation and grants are free..I would also ask about scholarships.. Those don't need to be paid back either. If you meet with all of these people, you'll be able to get some direction on what needs to be done 1st and then whatever is next. I want to wish you the very best of luck and May God bless you in all of your future endeavors.. Please keep me posted.. I know it probably ssounds like a lot of work, but if this is what you want, then go get it.....Please keep me posted. 1 other thing, you may be able to take some online classes to help you catch up... Hugs, Teresa |

| Posted almost 2 years ago I have contacted the community college where I have taken classes and am having issues with. Trying to work things out with them so that I can possibly start classes again this fall or at least by the spring. Keeping my fingers crossed that things will work out. If they don't - not sure what I am going to do. |

| Posted almost 2 years ago Well, we will keep you in our prayers. It really agravates me that what one scool wants the next one won't I don't know why they do that. When any one starts any type of schooling they must ask if the creit/courses are transferable.. Well any way congratulations on your future classes.. I'm sure you will enjoy/hate all of the work,LOL but it certainly will be helpful in the end...God Bless you..Please keep us posted..Teresa |
