I have a terrible habit when it comes to a particulat kind of food, sweets.  I will eat well all day, but the cravings usually hit me at night or espcially when I get off work from a hard day.  Even though I made numerous, conscious decisions all day not to have that any bad sweet (ie  candy, icecream, cake) when it comes to the end of a busy day, it is almost as if my mind has a strong driven course to get that sweet satisfaction. It's almost as I'm not thinking straight, therefore I can't say no.  Is there anyone who can give me some suggestions if you have been down this road and concurred the struggle? I need help quick because I find myself sluggish and I lack energy. This is an incredible addiction to break. Thanks for your help.

Dear STARRY RN,

I thought I was alone with my craving!!!!! I love to eat my desserts 1st!!!!! My favorites are M & Ms, Snickers, Now-n-Laters, Starbursts, and all ice cream!!!!!!  I stay away from the candy and dessert aisle @ any grocery or conveince store-I'm totally hooked!!!! I love chocolate- kisses, cake, ice cream, and cocoa!!!!!! You say in your post you lack energy, it could be your iron!!!!! May want to try eating more green leafy veggies- I know that's a hard one for me,too!!!!!  Liver is an excellent source, but I can't really tolerate it!!!!! You may want to get your thyroid gland checked out, too!!!!!! It controls stability and mood!!!!! There's nothing wrong with craving sweets, everyone has their favorite candy. I don't know anyone who doesn't like a good sweet dessert after a meal or hard work day!!!!!!!!!

Hi, I started the group, Healthy Nurses, and have to say sorry for being off so long. I started a new job that totally overwhelmed me. I used to be the moderator here on Nursing link, and had to give it up because it was too overwhelming. Anyway, I am a wellness coach, AND sugar addict. I have busted my craving for sweets. I still have them from time to time, but it's because I make a conscious choice, like at a birthday party, not because I crave it. I am so sorry it's been a while since you asked the question. I can help. My email address is joyce@lowglycemicnurse.com.  I'd be glad to connect with you.
