University vs. Community College

Posted almost 2 years ago So I've just been accepted to a university majoring in AAS nursing. All my pre reqs did not transfer from a previous school, so I am starting from scratch. I have an option of going to a CC and go straight into nursing without taking the Pre nursing exam. However, If I attend the University I will have to take the pre exam and will not be eligible to take it until 2013 or take the option of LPN. In both cases, I will still need to do all the pre reqs. Going to the University I would be graduating with as a LPN in 2014 or RN 2015. And, in the CC I would graduate RN 2014. The problem is that I have already been accepted into the university which is closer, where as the CC is 2 hrs away and I would not have a response til November. Another things is that with accepting the LPN I would have all BSN pre reqs completed and being able to graduate 2015/2016. If you were in my shoes what choice would you choose?

| Posted almost 2 years ago Dear ALLIED HEALTHCARE, I sorry to hear your dilemma!!!!! I guess that's why it's real important to make sure all classes you take are transferrable to any school you choose in the future!!!!! I think you need to ask yourself, how much time do you have to spend on your education/ LPN( 1 year) and @ community college it's usually a year, too!!!! RN school @ community college is 2 years, or 4 years if going for BSN @ university!!!!!! So, as I said @ the beginning how much time do you have to devote to school and clinicals!!! You need to talk to someone at the programs you are thinking about entering- if possible the head of the program!!!!! I attended community college and got my ADN back in 1996!!! But you have to look @ everything when you're trying to decide on your future-don't make a hasty one!!! To answer your question, I would think long and hard for a couple of days,do some research to find out which alternative is faster/convenient, and get in-put from persons I trusted and then decide!!!!!! Welcome to NL, and my name is Shonna or 09157238!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

| Posted almost 2 years ago Dear Shonna, Since I've already been accepted to the university, I will be starting my pre reqs there. Everyone I spoke to from both schools had different experiences. When I graduate, I want to be marketable. I've seen plenty of job postings for LPN, RN, and BSN, however I have to keep in mind the canidates I'm up against. I don't want go for the CC and graduate with RN and not be able get anything. I want to become a very good contender. I have the time to devote to classes and the clinicals. I just want to be current to the employment demands. With this site, I know that many people are working in home care, hospitals, and LTC's, or hiring departments so I just want to know which one is more likely to be hired( LPN, RN, or BSN) as a new grad. ~ How very little can be done under the spirit of fear. ~
