Hello Everyone,

I'm a new Nursing student and so far I'm struggling. I'm having a hard time applying the information on the test when it comes to critical thinking. Does anyone have any ideas or books I can get to help me improve my critical thinking? Thanks in advance.

Hiya, yes, we could reccomend books for you, but that's what the textbooks are their for. That's what you'll be quizzed by. It's very overwhelming, when you first start, but I promise as you build your knowledge, it will become easier.. God Bless you and Best of .luck..Please keep us posted..Hugs,Teresa

Dear MILLYONGIRL,

Teresah is right-takes awhile to get yourself focused on the task @ hand!!!!!!! You have to develop critical thinking-believe me your instructors had to learn to put their thinking caps on too before gettting to where they are!!!!! At some point, nurses were all nursing students!!!!!  Don't beat yourself up-nursing is a science that must first be learned then practiced!!!!!! You're @ the beginning, so everything may seem over your head, but you'll survive!!!!!! I feel your anguish-I remember spending 3 hours studying for Nursing Fundamentals exams, and 1 hour for the quizzes!!!!! I had to take it all in stride-you have your good days and bad days!!!!!!!! I had a small study group-it consisted of me and 2 friends!!!! We just quizzed each other-throwing questions off of one another and explaining why we got our answers. I hope my 2 cents helps, GOOD LUCK and GOD BLESS!!!! My name is Shonna or 09157238, and welcome to NL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can do this, but it does take time and patience.

I was not the greatest about studying things like organic chemistry, physics or any of the higher mathematics.

Now, I study Theoretical Physics as a hobby (whenever my pain and meds let me).  My point is: it takes time.  One course builds upon the other and so on.  You cannot learn it all at once.  It took me a while to fully understand the need for Nursing Research.

Before my medical retirement, I had conducted research in regulatory & legal affairs, mental health, refugee health, biology, nursing, pharmacoepidemiology/drug safety and drug development.

Let your advisor know what your particular concerns are and get help with that specific area, before trying to tackle the next step up.

As the answer to the old question goes:  How do you eat an elephant?  One bite at a time.

Don't try to eat the whole elephant at once.

Good luck.

Tom
