Hi everyone, I spend about 12 hours on my feet in the emergency room and wanted to know if anyone could recommend some comfortable shoes other than Danskos.
Thanks.

I don't find Danskos comfortable at all. I have found merrell shoes comfortable. I also had two pairs of shoes at work and would change midshift. For some reason, that seemed to help tremendously

Never thought of changing shoes. I like Cherokee Rockers. Love my danskos. I also have a pair of Spira.

I have a pair of really cute Merrells that feel like bricks after 3 hours...
So now I am 100% sold on Nike or New Balance running or cross training shoes.
( I am more than convinced that Nursing is the original form of cross training)
Even with these, though, I feel the souls become less springy and supportive after about three months or so.

I have cute merrells too, the ones I'm talking about are walkers. I have chronic plantar faciitis and heel spurs, so I know what you mean about the soles not being as springy and supportive after awhile, which is why I have two pairs of shoes at work at all times and change them midshift

Good shoes..very important! I bought a pair of Klogs a couple of weeks ago and have worn them running around the ER with no foot/leg/back fatigue at all....I got the ones with the backs on them, the model is "Naples" (I know I am too clumsy with open back shoes!) p.s....if you are going to change shoes mid=shift, you might also want to change socks...that helps:)

Oh yeah OZ I forgot to say change your socks. I can't wear Klogs, my feet are to narrow.

A group of us in clinicals are wearing the red cross nursing shoes. We find them very comfortable and light weight. They are on sale at www.allheart.com or aleast a couple of weeks ago they were.

Birkenstocks! I have worn them for years. It takes a while to break them in but then I love 'em

Please don't pay any attention to my misspelled words or typos. Sorry I'll try harder next time.

Danskos are beautiful and expensive but they do not come in a wide width, so if you have a large wide foundation, you will have to look at another shoe. I bought Skechers this time, and so far they are very comfortable. I did have to order them, no 11wides in store in stock. But $39.99 on sale and free shipping was a good deal for me.

I tried MBTs, Danskos, pretty much everything. I was in a shoe store and tried almost every shoe on, I was ready to walk out and for some reason tried a pair of Nikes. Nike Air Pegasus. So I am back to Nike, they don't last quite 12 hours but work the best for me.

I like my Cherokee Rockers but the shoes I like the best are my New Balance running shoes.

Shoes worn for 12+ hours in the ED successfully for me over the years have included Keen, New Balance, Anywears and Lands End all-weather mocs. Can't say I preferred one over another.

I had been wearing Avia's. The concave heel design really worked for me when I had the old plantar fascitis. Pain gone in 48 hours. But after a few years I started looking for something with more cush. Croc's didn't work out for me, neither did Nike air's. I bit the bullet and bought a pair of MBT's. Now I can't say they really make any fitness difference but no more hip or knee pain. Of course that was after I got over the heart attack I had over the price. I have had the same pair for 2 years now and you cannot even see any wear on the soles. Eventually I will get another pair but these are fine for now.

PS I work 12 hour nights on a busy L&D floor

I have had chronic foot pain for about four years now (damaged nerve), and I have found that Adidas running shoes or crosstrainers work well for me. They are the perfect combination of support and comfort. I also like that they are not too bulky and heavy. I have tried both New Balance and Sketchers sneakers and they don't give the amount of cushioning that I like.

I'm pretty much a sneaker gal and live in my Adidas sneakers, don't wear flats or formal shoes unless I have a special occasion. That being said, I find I can get about 9-12 months of wear out of the sneakers before I have to replace them.

Good luck!

Birkenstocks!

Ugly, but feel wonderful.  When I worked in the OR & PACU, these were all I wore because I was on my feet all day.

Now I wear New Balance tennis shoes simply because I can sit more in the ICU & because I need to move around more (I hate straps & kept slipping out of my clogs)

Birkenstocks actually makes tennis shoes, but I'm too cheap to buy them.

I love my tennis shoes. Nike,New Balance,& Addidas are my favorites. I get about 6 months out of a pair. The best way to get them is when the shoe stores have their by one get one half off sales.

I just got a new pair of Nursemates Shoes, the style is called 'Dove.'    They are so lightweight and comfy, and I have all the back cr*% to deal with, so these prove to outdo themselves!!  They are kind of a cross between a clog and full shoe.  Slip-ons baby, slip-ons!!!!

Rykas athletics especially walking or crosstrainers are my fave ..I heartily reccomend changing shoes and socks after 4-6 hours ..Easy spirits are good for me too. after a year they have to be retired or have insoles put in them
