Do you think that Dr. Phil's advice is legit? For instance, check out his article on breaking addicition. Will this advice actually help anyone?

Yep I do, because having quit smoking finally, I had to do all those things. I think he can be pretty heavy handed in a lot of things, but if you think about what he says, a great deal of it is common sense. He's a little to religious at times for me, basically because I'm not a christian

I have not really seen his show. I see many skits poking fun at him. I need to watch/listen before I can pass any thoughts on him

I think he gives good advice. He is alittle harsh at times but that is his style and he gets the results he's after. He does make alot of sense and people listen to him. I think he really tries to help people and is sincere about it. He does go overboard at times. But I think overall, his advice is worth taking.

He forces people to own the consequences of their own behavior and stop playing the victim. I like that about him. I didn't care for his weight loss book, or the one on dating. I liked his first book, though.

Dr. Phil is an absolute quack and is not to be trusted. He is routinely criticized by licensed psychologists and psychiatrists for his unorthodox and aggressive approach, sexual conduct with patients, and misleading 'credentials.' He was sanctioned by Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists for unethical behavior and will use his name to sell anything (bogus weight-loss products, etc.) and/or gain popularity and, by proxy, money.

I think he gives great advice most of the time. I believe in accountability and responsibility. He is unorthordox and the Sanction in Texas was unfounded and lifted.

I've seen a little of Dr.Phil on his TV show and his advice always seemed to be common sense to me. I haven't read any of his books.

“Dr. Phil” does give good advice, but it's advice that any prudent person would give based on the social acceptable norm. Phil is like John Edward, a word magician. Phil would say what most of us would agree with or view as acceptable, hence approving his advice and methods. Dr. Jeffrey Young & Dr. Janet Klosko are the "real thing," yet neither of them approves Phil's methods or approach, I believe that forcing a patient into therapeutic submission by use of public embarrassment (being viewed on TV or heard on Radio) is no way to obtain a sustainable affect. But Phil is amusing entertainment, just as Jerry Springer, David Blaine, and John Edward.
