Posted over 5 years ago it's okay to feel a little discouraged, but don't let it over-ride you and your dream to becoming a nurse- nursing school is def. no easy feat and for anyone who has taken this path, can atest to you how hard it can be. the terminology can be very hard to understand but just keep doing what you are doing, you obviously are doing something right sweetie! Just keep your head up and in those books. I am just a medical assistant right now and look forward to starting school, I have heard lots of stories baout some who have started an quit just because it is such a challenge- but those who maintain and stick it through become reall awesome nurses. It will take lots of time , harwork and dedication, but if you want this bad enough, you will be able to strive through it jus tbecause you have that willingness.Being a ;medical assistant is just as hard, learning new things that I have never encountered there were plenty of times I wanted to quit- but I never did, because I have the aspirations that I have for my life and my families life. You can DO IT and WE BELIEVE InYOU! take it one day at a time...

Posted over 5 years ago Godlybutterfly said: You did not learn to speak and understand English in a Day. You will not learn to speak and understand Medical Terminology in a few days either. It is a process. Make flashcards, carry them with you everywhere. If you have to wait in line for 5 mins, take that 5 to study. You are sitting at a RR track for several minutes or a very long traffic jam, take the opportunity. Exposure, Exposure, Exposure. Make yourself be exposed to the terminology, use the terminology, when asking questions in class and talking to classmates. Practice using it. Make it Your Own Language. Own it! You have chosen to enter a new profession. Run after your Dream! You Can Do It!

| Posted over 5 years ago There is a wonderful book out called "Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway", I read that book when I first got divorced and had a son 13 and another son of 8 at the time. I had never lived on my own before, and with two boys to worry about? I started applying this go ahead and do it anyway, and believe it or not... all these years later (now 51 then 35)

Posted over 5 years ago you can do it, take it one step at a time and if that's to much go slower. it can be done!! How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time! That's how to do nursing school. Good luck, take care Please don't pay any attention to my misspelled words or typos. Sorry I'll try harder next time.

Posted over 5 years ago You can do it. We all went thru it at one time. The more you use the terminolgy, the more familiar it will be to you. Just focus. It'll come. It just takes time. Good luck in your new adventures.

Posted over 5 years ago I too, became a CNA without any prior experience....2 years this coming summer. I was scarred!!!!!!!!!! My goal to become a nurse (applying for LVN program now). I wanted to quit so many times but my DSD kept encouraging me. She's wonerful!!!!!! Anyways...it took time and adjusting and patience............now I absolutely love my residents!!! I am so glad I decided to this.....although now I am no longer on the floor due to a "promotion" I try to be around them as much as I can....I am considering going back on the floor if I get accepted to nursing program and although I am a little nervous to "start over again"....its a exciting. My advise to you....is dont give up! Our elders need good people to care for them..............not for a pay check but for true compassion and understanding. Good Luck and hope you continue in this very rewarding path...............................................

Posted over 5 years ago I agree with kendbeef!! DON"T YOU DARE GIVE UP honey!!! You've come this far and it will eventually get easier, just remember to breath, relax and try to have some fun along the way. I remember taking the CNA program almost 13 years ago, I was so scared to fail. However I did just as I suggested to you and before you know it I was A CNA and working in a great nursing home and coming to love all of my residents!!! ;-) I have faith in you and will be supportive in any way I can. I am getting ready to start the CNA program all over again and even though I went through it before I am still scared, alot has changed in the last 10 years and I'm living in a different state than I was 13 years ago.Breath, relax and draw upon the strength of all these amazing people,we'll be here whenever you need us!!! ;-)

Posted over 5 years ago I started out volunteering at a nursing home and then decided to become a CNA. You will be just fine. Take one thing at a time, it will all come to you and what you dont learn in class you will learn when you get out on the floor. Some terms probably dont make sense right now but it will come easy to you after awhile. Give yourself credit where credit is due, you have taken the first step to your nursing career. I went on to become a RN and being a CNA was the best fiirst step I ever took.

Posted over 5 years ago I have been a CNA for over 20 years. It is hard when you first start, but you will get the hang of it. I have also applied for nursing programs for the fall and keeping my fingers crossed that I make it into one. Working as a CNA will give you some great experience that you can carry into the nursing field. The terminology can be overwhelming, don't give up. Small steps. Good Luck!

| Posted over 5 years ago I am trying to get in to a RN program right now, I will be taking course's in June. I am really scared that I wont be able to do this. I feel that I could be a good nurse though. I am alittle scared as I have 2 kids (3 & 1 1/2 yrs old) and I will have to quit my job to go back. I think that I need to focus all of my energy on school and them. Yes, I will be taking out a big student loan (oh well, bills will always be there right ?)

Posted over 5 years ago Do you have your Ceritfied Nursing License? Many programs require it before going into the program and it gives an awesome opportunity to do the work that nurses do short of passing meds, iv's, etc. and alot of people either love it right away or hate it and decide it is not for them.

Posted over 5 years ago roserenee26 said: Hello. If you still need to complete prerequisite courses to get accepted into the actual nursing program, you can take one or two classes at a time in the evenings after work. You don't have to quit your job and avoid taking out loans sooner than you need to. Take it one step at a time; otherwise, it can get to be overwhelming.

Posted over 5 years ago mramsey40 said: Too bad none of the Community Colleges in my area offer the CNA Program prior to starting the RN or LVN Program. I even looked at the Community Colleges in the surrounding counties of Sacramento, CA with no luck. Is it true that after the first semester into the RN or LVN Program, the student is eligible to challenge the boards to become a CNA, anyone?

Posted over 5 years ago Hun..I decided to go into nursing in my 40s!!! You can do it! Student loans definitely saved the day....it will not be easy by any stretch of the imagination, it is doable though. Got any type of support system to help with your children? Family, friends?
