Do you have your Ceritfied Nursing License? Many programs require it before going into the program and it gives an awesome opportunity to do the work that nurses do short of passing meds, iv's, etc. and alot of people either love it right away or hate it and decide it is not for them.

Too bad none of the Community Colleges in my area offer the CNA Program prior to starting the RN or LVN Program. I even looked at the Community Colleges in the surrounding counties of Sacramento, CA with no luck. Is it true that after the first semester into the RN or LVN Program, the student is eligible to challenge the boards to become a CNA, anyone?

Check with the nursing homes. Alot of them offer classes. Some charge, some do not. When I got mine, I went to a class through Beverly Enterprises and got my CNA that way. I have never heard of a person being able to challenge the boards, check it out though, you never know! ;)

My mom used to be an nurse I never thought i would be able to obtain the information

Hey, I just finished a cna program, and if I can do it, than anyone can! I'm a welder by trade. I made one hell of a career change! I found a lot of it to be common sence and just put my self in situations and asked myself how I would want to be treated or how I would feel. Hang in there.

So does anyone have any insight to help me? Should I apply for a nursing home job to help me get into nursing? Would that be the better move now? I'm thinking about going to a Day care center full time in the summer. Hopefully i can take my prereq. courses this summer as i apply to a loal nursing school. Should I apply to 2 or more schools?

Maybe getting your CNA license would be a good first step, some nursing homes offer classes while you work. Maybe where you work now?
Do you have any of your pre-reqs done?
Yes, you should apply to more than one school, one may not accept you but the second or third one might. It is very competitive and high grades are the key in your sciences. Also, most nursing programs have a deadline to apply. If that has already passed, you will have to wait til the fall to apply. Check with the local colleges in your area. Hope that helps!
