I speak Russian, but am also trying to pick up Polish because there are a lot of Poles here in Chicago... I know a lot of clinics/hospitals are looking for people that can at the very least do basic language/conversation skills and medical terminology in a second or third language.

I am fluent in conversational spanish (I learned in middle school and high school), so I put that on my resume, and that gets you bonus job points:)

Yeah, I also know that a lot of the Polish people around here understand Russian, but don't like to speak or hear it. It causes me some problems when I'm trying to order food at the Polish grocery store! Honestly, though, I won't begrudge anyone from East Europe for hating the Russians, especially the older ones who remember Communism. I think it'll just be better to learn Polish.

I do wish I had learned Spanish, though. That would be really useful.

Yeah, I also find that reading romance novels in your foreign language is good... simple language and certainly entertaining!!! pop music helps a lot too, b/c it uses the same themes our music does.
