Hi Afraid of losing your license Dont be. 7 years ago an RN gave my Mother the wrong Medication tried to cover it up, ( Got taught) My Mother died as a result. Lost license for 60 days took a Medication refresher course was back to work. Now that takes cares of any Med errors.Next Missing Drugs my favoite. Now which story should I,tell .The one when all the Narco disappeared form Cabinet (we had to narco cabinet in  Unit someone for forgot to check the one in the Back for 2 days all drug gone ) So the Hospital put in Automated system.( like the cash machine put in password drugs pop out of draw)Or the Story about ,A Head Nurse who had one of everything  in the Narco Cabinet taped to the bottom of the Draw an the count was right, ( She got fired) license lost well?

Narcotics are really a serious case! Being a new nurse, I really have to learn a lot about my profession, not just from the books but from the experience of other nurses.Reading your posts and discussion guys are really very helpful! It gives me an idea how to deal with it if ever I'll be stuck with similar situations in the future ( but I'm hoping I won't)

Like Theresa said, do not cut corners, follow the procedures.  They are there to create a total accounting from the time the meds enter the hospital to the time they are given to a patient or disposed of.  Just keep the records together and you should have no worries.

Never rush either.  Biggest cause for mistakes, slow down and get it right .  That little bit of time "wasted" slowing down, can save you lots of time not having to explain yourself to your superiors, administration, DEA, Nursing Boards, lawyers, judges and families.
