This was an aricle I found on WebMD:

"America's 50 Best Hospitals" Listed

WebMD) HealthGrades, a health care ratings company, today released its second annual "America's 50 Best Hospitals Report."

The hospitals on the list "have demonstrated superior clinical quality for the most consecutive years" from 2003 to 2008, states the report.

The list is based on Medicare data on mortality, in-hospital complications, and HealthGrades' Distinguished Hospital Award in clinical excellence.

The data specifically focus on 27 procedures and diagnoses, including heart attack, hip fracture, pneumonia, and stroke, but not cancer.

Hospitals pay a huge amount of money to get onto this list. This isn't about working at them, it's about the procedures etc done there. Three of the finest hospitals I've ever worked at aren't on this list. Scripps in San Diego, or any of them, but I liked this one best. Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, Metro Health, (aka Cleveland Metro General) Cleveland, Ohio Cleveland Clinic stinks, was not impressed at all.

Wow, I did not realize that procedures were what it was based on. I assumed that it was a number of things, including pay to employees, working conditions, etc...

Have you guys checked out the NursingLink Hottest Health Employers? Scripps is on there and so is Mayo...so is Lehigh Valley...also it would be so cool if you guys would put your comments in the employer reviews. i think that is where most people would read them. That would be really great.

wow dmazement - you know something about everything! I would never had thought they paid to get on this list or that it was based on the procedures. I would think it was based on the patient to nurse ratio and the way employees were treated.

charlita, I think I'm a sponge for information. Also the years of being a travel nurse, you pick up things you ordinarily wouldn't.
