Posted over 5 years ago Isaac: We just had a presentation on campus from some people who had been to Tanzania. I didn't realize how beautiful the country is! In our church parish we have several African sisters from Tanzania....they did traditional dance and song and it was awesome....especially since they are so shy most of the time. Would love to go there someday. Stacie

Posted over 5 years ago I had a student who went to South Africa last year on an International Study program. She went to hospitals and clinics in both urban and rural areas. She had a great time, and brought me back some souvenirs related to fertility and childbirth customs there (all my OB students have to do a cultural presentation, and at least one group does someplace in Africa), so that was really cool. One of my colleagues is going to Zambia this summer as a missionary. She's going to a hospital there to help them set up their OR. With all the turmoil in Africa in general, I'm a bit hesitant to do that, though I have to admit I'm also a bit envious.

Posted over 5 years ago I've seen all kinds of documentaries and pictures of Africa, and it is beautiful country. I've always wanted to visit Egypt because I love history: I have an MA in history and took some courses in archaeology. But a lot of African countries are embroiled in civil wars and violence, and that does scare me. I have a number of African students in my classes from all over: Cameroon, South Africa, Nigeria. I am quite fond of most of them, and they bring some really interesting perspectives to my class. They've corrected some misperceptions and misunderstandings I've had about their countries and cultures. I've learned a lot from them. I have to admit, my colleague who is going to Zambia has got me interested in the idea of visiting, and she seems to be going to a country that is more stable than places like Zimbabwe, Liberia, or Kenya right now. Just curious, what country do you live in?
