I have an 8 year old golden retriever named Morgan who I absolutely love most in this world. Friday night he was romping in the living room, throwing his toy around and he sprained his right leg. He's limping around, but it just doesn't get him down. Keeping him quiet is the problem because I move he's right behind me. Just hurts me, he's uncomfortable.

Sorry to hear about your dog. What did they do for his leg? Is it wrapped up? Can they give him something to relax him or make him sleepy? This probably hurts you more then it hurts him. Animals are like kids they seem to bounce back. I have a bulldog named Herculena. I dont have kids but she is my "babygirl" Hope you both feel better.

Thanks Stephanie, no wrap, vet feels as do I, it aggravates him more than helps. He can't take aspirin, he gets sick so just keeping him quiet. I love bully's.

I'm sorry to hear about your dog. My Shitzu is starting to get up in years, has diabetes, cataracs. Don't know what I'll do when he's gone. Our animals are our babies....hope Morgan gets better soon!

well herein lies my problem, he is up and around, active boy that he is. A few minutes ago, Missy the pup downstairs was calling for him and he brought me his leash, he wants to go outside and play and I can't let him Thanks everyone

That is so sweet, but sad. He misses playing with his friend. Dogs heal pretty quickly. So, I bet before the weeks out, he will be doing great! Keep us posted on his progress, mom!

He's doing better shan, thanks. He is ok until he is up and zipping around to much, so another few days of laziness should do the trick.

I am so glad to here your dog is better! It is very sad when they are hurt and you want to fix them and you can't. My husband and I had a dog (babe) she was our 1st baby. when we 1st moved in together we adopted her. She was great ( a rotti) when I had kids all the family members were very worried she might try to hurt the baby. well she was another mom to all of my children. Then when she was 12 years old she got cancer in her back leg. A ball had formed and there was NOTHING WE COULD DO because of her age. So she was no longer able to come upstairs and sleep at the foot of our bed and well she started being in alot of pain so long story short we had to make a decision. We made the appt to have her put down. The night before all our family members came to visit with babe and she had a big steak dinner and we that night she for the 1st time in 6mths or more made it up our step and sleep on my husbands side of the bed. When morning came she never woke up. We didn't have to put her down. She went on her own. It was the 1st time in 11 years I ever seen my husband cry and the children well some where to young to really understand but my oldest at the time was 5years old he new what happen. This was on of the sadest days for my family.
Now I have a husky Nalla shes my queen is having problems with her back legs, arthris and we'll her spin is messed up! and well even though she is only 7 years old, things are just not looking good for her. I don't want to go through this again! She doesn't come up and sleep with me anymore, she sleeps down stairs, she can't run anymore if she tries her legs go out from under her. she won't play ball, she doesn't come to the door and great me talking to me anymore, its so sad. It is breaking my heart. After this i am not having anymore dogs for a long time. When we lost babe it was like losing a child to me. I still have her picture hung in my family room we still take about her. and Now to know my Nalla baby is not going to be around much longer, well you get the point!!!

My heart goes out to you.  I understand how bad it feels to love something so much and see them in pain.  When my German Shepard was about 5 months old he started limping.  I had no I idea what was wrong and it just got worse really fast.  Initially I took him to the poor quality vet comparable to a Solantic, they took xrays and basically said they weren't sure and I need to take him to a specialist (which will cost an arm and leg...but I have 2 arms and 2 legs so I was willing to give them all).  So in the mean time they gave him a shot and I was just suppose to sit and wait.  The next day, It was on my birthday when he woke up literally screaming in pain...I didn't know what to do!  I didn't know how to comfort him....I felt so helpless.  So I rushed him to the Animal ER...they gave him a shot of morphine and basically told me the same thing.  Well, I was a wreck...I just kept picturing my happy puppy that is always a joy...always wanting me to play with him and his toys or completely content rolling on the floor with them by himself.  Every morning he wakes my up by laying on men and licking my face and I was so missing that.  Anyways...I finally decided to take him to my trusted vet (I don't know why I ever thought to go anywhere different)..within minutes he came back to me and told me what was going on...and after a lot of ups and downs...my puppy is happy again.  I truley dread the day when my dogs pass...my condolences to you!  I just try to remember all the joy and happiness they bring and know that even though it will hurt to see them go...the positive definetly outweights the negative.

Thanks to you all.  Morgan is fine now, a simple sprain and he's playing ball and walking just fine now.  He's napping at the moment, on my feet as always.  He misses his buddy cat, Gaz who we lost a week ago this past friday from an severe asthma episode.  Life goes on.
