Hi I'm in my second semester of nursing courses. I did very well last semester, and this semester has proven itself to be more difficult like they said it would. I think, though, that I am doing a very good job with keeping up with the pace. Unfortunately, I do have to work full time and go to school, which is difficult , but I think I 'm juggling this fairly well. My teacher kind of depressed me the other day by giving us a lecture on the difficulty of the program and how we will not be able to get throught the program while working full time hours for those of us that may be doing this. I just wanted to run out of the room crying. Yes, it is hard and of course we don't expect anything to be sugarcoated, but I was devestated to hear her say that. I think that if you work hard enough and really want it, it can be done while working, although it is much harder. I just couldn't believe it, and I really felt like giving up and withdrawing from the course right then and there. Does anybody have any thoughts on this , or does anyone have the unfortunate experience of working full time and going to school at the same time?

luvapunkgrl, take a deep breath, plant your feet firmly on the ground and keep pushing forward, and bulldoze yourself through. Yes, nursing school is tough, even tougher with the added responsibilities of work and family. There are many of us here that have done just that; work full time and go to school full time and have done well. I have faith that you will do well also. Just keep your priorities straight, and don't let yourself fall back or fall behind, and you will be just fine. I have faith in you. I send you a BIG hug. Hang in there kiddo!

*"I really felt like giving up and withdrawing from the course right then and there."*

Blunt and straigt forward with her statements, but your thioughts are what se was looking for and the ones that follow through with that way of thinking. As long as you have the stamina to get through it, yer golden and just the fact it "scared" you but you didn't act on it proves you have the strength you need. See how many fall by the wayside after this. It's a tough long hard road, but it's obvious you are in the passing lane. ;) keep it up

And verily, verily I say unto thee that some day it shall come to pass that from the earth there shall come a thundering roar, fire and smoke, and from the darkness, fire and smoke an Angel shall rise. Thou cannot speaketh his name for Hell follows him

I can feel your burdened pain. I am a nursing student as well in my second semester, this is my second bachelors that I am working on. Before this nursing program I was a full-time student and a full-time employee at a big medical center. I am not working right now, my grades are high but so is the financial stress that empowers me. Frankly, not working and not generating the money needed to live comfortably, doesnt make the nursing program any easier. My program stresses the importance of not working like yours; I hear were they are comming from, but I dissagree. If you are working in healthcare, you are better preparing yourself for the field that you are chosing to get into. Secondly, bills that you may have on a monthly basis can be paid more easily. Loans suck, when you are spending money that you have but are not putting money into then the hole that is being created is deep. Do what you have to do, my suggestion to you is to cut back on hours and work 25-32 hrs/week. That will still allow you the money to most probably pay your monthly dues. Work hard now, in the long run it will pay off.

Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it. I know a woman that obtained her Master's degree while working full time as an RN, raising her son and having a baby in her final semester. It can be done! I too feel your pain, I work full time , go to school and have two kids, a man and a rather large house, that all fight for my attention. Good luck and keep pushing on, you can do it!

Yeah, I've heard that too...what a crock. I know lots of women who are working at least part time and going to school. I feel that not working is only possible for wealthier students who don't have to worry about things like bills or rent; or people who are comfortable with taking on massive student debt.

Don't worry about it... you'll have even more to be proud of when you've got your degree :D

Never Let Anyone Else Stomp on Your Dream.
I worked full time while going to LPN school, 3 classmates had babies, we had deaths and marriages, divorces and finacial burdens, but we made it through and so will you.

You have to pay your bills and eat while going to school; like someone else said the stress of getting deeper in debt weighs pretty high. If you can work 1/2 or 3/4 time great. Some of my classmates were able to do so, I couldn't afford not to work full time. Your dedication and motivation matter most.

I am so sad that you had to experience this, I am a single mom of two, and I also work full time 12hr shifts. I grauate in may. Remember this.......BE POSITIVE.......Yes you can......communicate with your employer, letting them know your situation, steal time to study, make note cards and study every second you get, record your classes, (I have a transmitter that allows me to listen in my car while driving) Just do it like, you are in my prayers......you can, your instructor is wrong many have proven that it CAN be done.......Keep your head up and surround your self around positive people with I can attitudes.......Just do it.
