How do you react to doctors that treat you like crap? I have worked with a few and I don't really know how to deal with it. I know that I am new to nursing and I have a lot to learn, but goodness some can be horrible. Any ideas on how to deal with it?

I know some who treat you better if you stand up to them. For example, look them in the eyes and explain why you were concerned enough to call them in at 03:00. Some you don't make suggestions to because they will always do the opposite just because you suggested something-dared to think you knew your patient well enough to suggest something.

Ron is right, you have to stand up to them. If you know you are right don't cowar down. Since your new to nursing you could ask some of the vertran nurses you work with which ones you can make suggestions to and which ones you shouldn't. There are also a few docs that will ask you what do you think should be done? I don't know what shift you work, (I work nights) but if you have to call a doc in the middle of the night make sure you have all your ducks in a row. Nothing is more aggravating to them than you waking them at 3am and not know something they ask about. Of course you will always have a few that no matter what the situation or what you say or do they are going to be jerks. Just develop that thick skin and don't take it personal if they chew you out. Best of luck to you
