For a long time a make my own scrub tops and jackets. At work the know by now that a do a lot of sowing and also quilting. My quilting skills are not very good yet but I am working on it.
My question is: lots of college;s are asking to make scrubs for them and are willing to pay for it. I have made some for a present, but always refuse to do it. It they want to pay my hours that I put in them they do not want to pay for that and that is understansable. Some people are not nice if I refuse to make them a scrub top, What would you do??

Mieke (AND REMEMBER:
GOOD FRIENDS ARE LIKE STARS.
YOU DON'T ALWAYS SEE THEM,
BUT YOU ALWAYS KNOW
THEY ARE THERE!!!!!!)

I just made an Elvis scrub top. I did that as a gift for a coworker. I think it is pretty nervy for them to ask and not want to pay for it. You can just tell them in a nice way that you sew for business not for free.

I would sayif I were you...".If you by the fabric..and a flat fee of Five or ten dollars"...Because if I were your coworker I would buy a hudred scrub tops from you...That would BE WAY CHEAPER than buying them! AND I would get to pick the patterns I want!!

I agree with cd, stick to your guns! I worked with a lady that made scrubs for people at the hospital, but when she needed a break or was getting too many orders she would just tell everybody that she was not available for such amount of time, no matter what. Hope your day gets better!

If you start this, you might not have enough time for nursing! If you do it , charge a fee that covers all materials and compensates you for your time. That will cut down on the requests, I'm sure.

I have found myself in this senario many times. MY response is "if I do it for money it isn't fun any more" . I have made many for presents and even do machine embroidery with nursing themes. Another avenue is to offer to show them how to make their own...they will run for the hills.. Hope it helps
