Posted about 5 years ago I am trying to start back in school but finding it hard to get started. I want to get my RN but with a full time postion that my family needs financially and a 2 year old at home i am getting discouraged. I do have medical background i have been through the EMT program, paramedic, fire academy, and an associates in general education, but people that have gone through the RN program tell me my son is to young to try now. Please help. I am determined to become an RN |

| Posted about 5 years ago Sounds to me you're more overwhelmed than discouraged. Why not find out what pre-requisites you can get out of the way, take a course or two every semester and then when your son is in school, in a few years you'll be ready for the ADN or BSN program? |

| Posted about 5 years ago firechick39 - do you have family members who can help out with your 2 yr old? Work and school can be done but it can be challenging. I went back for my Bachelor's in Business Administration while working full time when my son was just 18 mos old and finished when he was 3. My husband supported me so that helped. I am still working FT and back in school again PT taking prereq courses, hoping to change my career to nursing. My challenge will be quitting my FT, day job when I eventually get accepted into the actual nursing program which is held during the day. I haven't come to that bridge yet. I'm just taking it one step at a time. The first steps I took in getting signed up for school was meet with a counselor and I attended the school's informational meeting about the nursing program. I was also able to look at the Community College catalog on-line so that I can see the evening classes available. I'm just taking two classes this semester. Good luck. |
