Posted over 5 years ago I should be starting my nursing program this fall, and I was wondering what everyone would recommend as a first stethoscope. My husband was browsing through a magazine and found this http://www.rangerjoes.com/stethoscope-puretone-tactical-p-2006.html so it is one I am considering. I thought it might work well in minimizing background noise since it is designed for tactical use. Let me know your thoughts and opinions. Thank you! |

| Posted about 5 years ago Jdeck, I know you posted this several days ago so hopefully you will see this... I am also in nursing school. For my first stethoscope I bought a Littman "decent" quality one. It was recommended to me that for school not to spend too much (I think mine was about $65) just in case it gets lost, stolen etc. Also, when I decide where I want to specialize I can buy a really good one that will be specific to the type of work I want to to (ex. pediatrics, cardiology, etc) Hope this helps and best of luck with school! | Posted about 5 years ago JD... Don't get caught up by hype. The most important factor of a stethoscope is the chest piece and the ability to collect and funnel the sound through the tubing into the earpiece, length of the tubing is also important, so are proper fitting ear pieces. With all that being said, I would recommend that you stay with a trusted name and design, I recommend http://www.allheart.com/littmannstethoscopes.html, and they have very good deals and all different price ranges. Remember it's not the price of the stethoscope that makes it a good instrument; it's the acoustical skills that add value to the tool. |

| Posted about 5 years ago I got my double sprague stethoscope for 9.98 from www.allheart.com ,and it is great. (With shipping and handling it came to around $16.00, but I have been really impressed with it, but what is good for me may not be the same for you. I am also starting my nursing program in the fall. |

| Posted over 4 years ago I'm wondering if there is a benefit to the sprague and why the double tubing? Is single tubing as good or better? |

| Posted over 4 years ago I must be the oddball here. I have had MANY different types and brands of stethoscope and finally found one I like. The Prestige Medical Cardio Sprague (single tube) Premium Series. It had GREAT acoustics as well as a double bell (one for high pitched sounds and one for low). Also the earpieces fit well, it comes with extras (both rigid and soft) so you have options for fit. The chestpiece has a plastic rim to help you not freeze your pts. to death, and it LASTS! I think mine was about $70. As I said before, I've had many brands before. Littman didn't help me at all, I couldn't hear a thing! Not to mention the HUGE pricetag. |
