What's the advantages and/or disadvantages?

Advantages are that you can work on your classes at your convenience. So if you are a night owl, that's the time you can work on it. No traveling to class, most classes have alot of discussion and great teachers that explain.

Disadvantages: You have to be disciplined to work on your own. Online classes have deadlines for assignments and discussion just like in class and if you fall behind it is very hard to catch up.

Online classes alot of people think are easier than regular classes. I have taken online classes for a few years now and I love them, but they can be intense and more in depth than regular classroom. But I guarantee you will understand it better by the time you get done. Check out CCConline.org. They are an organization based out of colorado with the university and a dozen other colleges. You can take all your courses online and get either your AA or AS there. It is a little spendy, but I have found it is well worth it.

I like both! I think that online classes can definitely be WAY more challenging than class room classes because you dont get the instant feedback from the teacher when you ask questions...But I like both!

I did online RN program at my Community College....if you want to be able to juggle things (like work and/or family and school), it does help, but if you are one to ask questions and look for immediate (or in the case of my class, ANY) response, then maybe a more traditional program would be appropriate.....I agree that self-motivation and discipline are keys to success in an online program...not to mention ability to prioritize and organize:) Best of luck in whichever you choose:)

Thanks. I believe I would be more ready for online, once I finish the 2 yr RN program. All of the kids will be out of the house by than.

I know of several nurses that have done their Bachelors online. They all said it was way more convenient. But as others say, it is harder and you have to be able to priortize. There is some colleges back east that are playing with the idea of offering classes during the R.N. program that do not require clinicals. Something like ethics, etc. They are saying that it opens the classrooms up for the clinicals and therefore they can take on more students. I am not sure about that because there is still a teacher that has to run the whole thing. Good luck!

The advantages for an on campus class is it gets me out of the house! Which is a good thing. It is nice to take a break from the three kids. I also enjoy working with the other students and talking with the instructors.

My program is split...I'm working on my clinicals and RN requirements in class/hospital and then all the BSN classes are online. I really like it because I'll be able to start working before (Once I pass the NCLEX)...

I've done both on-line and traditional schooling. I personally prefer the traditional way. I like the 'camaraderie' feeling of accomplishing the same goal as an entire class. I would also like to accept my diploma/degree along with my classmates whom I will struggle and succeed with. Additionally, I totally understand that the traditional way is not for everyone for whatever reason - lack of transportation, lack of baby-sitter, etc. AND on-line is not for everyone either esp. if you're the type of student who needs immediate answers. Like others have said, you definitely have to be disciplined in doing the on-line thing. It's not easy.
