Here is my situation:
I am currently an LPN in school for my RN. After I get my RN (in two years) I want to be a Certified Nurse Midwife. I would really like to work, currently, in OB or women’s health or a woman’s clinic, basically something to get me in the direction of becoming a CNM and gaining some experience in that area of nursing. My problem is that I live in an area of Ohio that is flooded with nurses. LPNs mostly work in Long Term Care because the local hospitals are smaller and they have a lot of RNs to staff them anyway.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can get an employer to recognize my potential and step outside of the norm to hire an LPN in an area dominated by RNs?

When you do your clinicals, in RN school, ask the hospital do they hire student nurses, especially in OB. Most hospitals will let you work as a student nurse.
