Hello!

I am a newly trained nurse from germany and I'm about to start work in a nursing home in ireland. My new employer asked me for 2 reference letters from the place where I studied.
One of the persons who will give me a reference asked me to compose a reference letter for myself but this is such a hard thing for me, as
1. in germany reference letters for newly trained nurses are absolutely not common so I cant ask for much support from my former employer (where i was trained)
2. the letter needs to be expressed in a professional way and I really face difficulties to hit "the right language" (my mother tongue is german)

I already tried google but its just so hard.

Can you have a look at what i just wrote and tell me what you think about it? (I left out names and dates for privacy reasons)

When the letter is finished my former employer is going to print it out and sign it with his own name.

To whom it may concern

I would like to highly recommend ... as a candidate for a position in your nursing home.

During her practical nursing training, ... was working in our cardiological unit between ... and ....

There she was trained in the following tasks:
- Administering treatment and giving medications to patients under the direction of physicians
- Preparing patients for medical examinations
- Performing bedside care
- Observing patients, assessing and recording symptoms, and noting reactions and progress
- Monitoring all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity
- wound dressing
- giving i.m. and s.c. injections
- Putting bladder catheters with male and female patients
- Writing Electrocardiograms
- Withdrawing blood

... did an excellent job with these tasks. One of her attributes is her warm and empathetic way of dealing with patients. Besides caring well for their physical and medical needs she as well put appropriate importance on their emotional needs. For her friendly personality she was well-liked among patients as well as among the team and was always willing to offer her assistance. ... was constantly eager to learn new things and became a dependable part of the team who was able to work independently

I recommend her for employment without reservation. Please let me know if you need further information.

Phone: ...

So far for now... I really ahve no experience in this and really need help. Is the language professional enough? Are there any mistakes so far? Are there any unappropriate sentences that should be formulated differently? I will keep on working on this reference. Please tell me what you think of it so far..

THANK YOU VERY MUCH! (by helping me here you help me to get the job i really want to start)

Thanks sunnie :) Yeah I know, its still morning over there. Get out of your beds you lazy bums!! hahahahhhahaha

Its good to have some feedback on this reference and I appreciate any constructive feedback from you guys. I so much want the job!

Its kinda tricky. On the one hand I dont wanna praise myself too much and on the other hand I want my future employer to see my strong points. At least I am glad my former employer asked me to compose the reference myself :D

Me thinks future employers are more interested in work ethics. Is the person honest, dependable, always ON TIME? Do they have a caring attitude as observed in clinicals? Are they interested in the safety of the patient? Do they follow hospital policies? Are they a team player? You know, stuff like that..Skills can be learned, but its the deeper things that need maturing. Will you be an asset or a liability?

I thought it was enough mentioned indirectly in the paragraph that spoke about interpersonal qualities as well as professional skills. Didnt want it to look like it was copied from any website. I now added a sentence. This is how the paragraph looks like now

Nicola did an excellent job with these tasks. One of her attributes is her warm and empathetic way of dealing with patients. Besides caring well for their physical and medical needs she as well put appropriate importance on their emotional needs. For her friendly personality she was well-liked among patients as well as among the team and was always willing to offer her assistance. Nicola was constantly eager to learn new things and became a dependable part of the team who was able to work independently. She always prooved to be honest, punctual and a team player.

Thanks so much for your help :)

I think you have done a good job on it. It is so very hard to write your own letter. I hate it when someone tells me to do that. I also think it is rude and lazy.
