I found maternal nursing to be the most difficult.

Specifically for me the edocrine system was the worst. When we tested, only 2 people in the class of about 50 passed the test. Of course it wasn't taught very well either. Glad it was just one test of many. As far as classes, Adult Nursing II (Med/Surg II) was the hardest, which we took in the second semester. OF course Fundaments of Nursing was no piece of cake either. I think it has to do with the intrustor too. How they teach it can make a big difference. Good Luck

We just went through endocrine and renal and will be tested on it when we return from spring break. The rumor is only 2 people have passed the past two years, so I'm trying not to stress. So right now these are the worst...if I pass and have retained some of it then I'll have to reassess my hardest area. I have to agree with cd, maternal wasn't my favorite.

Please don't pay any attention to my misspelled words or typos. Sorry I'll try harder next time.

Our Med/Surg semester was hardest. Not, I think, because of the material, but the schedule we kept. My friend and I were working 40+ hours a week on top of school and 12 weeks of Saturday clinicals.

Ok I dont want to sound like an idiot here, but I know some of the people thinking about becoming nurses will want to know so i am going to ask this question on their behalf...

Why do nurses need to take so much math and science? Is it really necessary after you are on the job?

I am actually pretty good in math. I am better at math actually, which I know I will need when converting medications/ adding up I&O's. The one subject I am sort of dreading is Med/Surg or Maternal. :) I guess I will just have to keep my nose to the grindstone. Thanks everyone. I love you guys!

Most difficult subject for me: Pharmacology. Although I passed with a nice grade, it is still difficult for me. I am hoping that it will just become second nature with time & experience. That being said, I am only half way through the ADN program and may find a class more difficult still, but sincerely doubt it. Our instructors agreed that more time needed to be devoted to the subject but they were operating within the constraints of state mandates.

Math & Science?: Math errors can mean life and death in this industry. I believe that to have a good understanding of systems and their functions allows you to be able to critically think at a higher level. Which makes for a more competent and confident nurse.

Pharm was def. a hard subject when I was in school back in the day. Science and math are huge when dealing with patients and their safety. Patience in the beginning is key cuz you need time to first adjust to the "nursing" environment and second to give yourself confidence in the knowledge that you do have and then to actually use it.

I know this is going to sound weird to most but i found pediatrics to be the hardest.. Not because the material was hard rather, i would never relate to what the text book had to say, but how i would relate the questions to real life. AS YOU KNOW THIS IS A BIG NO NO!!!!!!! bUT I FOUND THIS to be the hardest course i have had thus far... Pharm was also a chore but Peds was a pain.. JEssie D:))

I have to agree with Pharmacology being the worst! But honestly, I didn't have a great time during any of it--too much busy work and the instructors were terrors and all the information was given to us in such a short span of time. Just enough time to cram it in and purge it after the test to move on..........So personally, I was majorly burnt out right outta school----BUT I hung in there through it all !!! Sadly, I don't work anything baby related which is why I went to nursing school to begin with. I love the people I work with though and my schedule and wouldn't go anywhere else!

Ahh, I hated pharmacology! I had to take it last term - what a nightmare! First of all, it's a complex enough subject, learning how drugs work and then applying them to various scenarios and learning about all the types of drugs. Then, the way our course was set up, was that it was taught by many many lecturers so they all taught a little different. For example, one person would talk about NSAIDs in one way and another would talk about NSAIDs in another, which I found really confusing. And then there was the exam, which was the most messed up exam I've ever come across (but I won't get into that...)

Anatomy and physiology was pretty difficult, too, but I had a really good bio teacher in high school so I already had a good understanding of a lot of the basic material that the profs used in their lectures. Although...I have to say that I thought the respiratory system was hard >_

I also found OB some of the most difficult material to test on; I am not sure if it was the material or just it was one of our last classes and I was exhausted.

Overall, I would say whatever you are doing at the time is the hardest. Just take it one day at a time, do your best and get rest when you can. I found the people who tried to have a "real life" outside of work and school became sick more often and got behind. Like nursing, a great deal of nursing school is about prioritizing. Learn to prioritize early and you will go far!

Pharmacology was hard because it was mostly memorization of the drugs. Our book was awful to read and understand. You couldn't relate the material to anything like in some of the other classes. The tests were extremely hard too. Everyone in our class passed.

Nutrition!! Hated it and barely squeaked by with a "C". My brain just would not absorb any of it!

I guess I've been fortunate in that Pharm has been integrated with the content right along - it helps to remember all the meds if you know what they're doing and what they're for, I think. At least it does for me.

I passed my Renal/Endocrine ... yay me.

Man I can't wait for April 30.

Most difficult nursing subjects? I would agree with those who said endocrine/renal/cardiac....quite complex. I also was lucky to have my pharmacology woven into each semester as it pertained to the particular area of nursing that we were studying...I found that to be quite helpful (I have also heard horror stories from those who had to take a separate pharmacology class!)....By the way, interpreting ABGs was no picnic either!!!!!
Most difficult science class??? I would say it was a tie between chemistry (yuck!) and microbiology.....math and science is very important when working as an rn...particularly the microbiology!!! stick with it:)

I found that Fluid & Electrolytes were tough, but I also found Cardiac tough. ABG's were not so bad, had a great teacher, and a great chart. I also agree that chemistry and micro were tough, but I completed them before I entered the nursing program, so all I had to do was the actual nursing classes and clinicals. Weeeeee. I am almost there ! One more semester to go. It has been a long haul, and tough on the family, but Oh so worth it. LOVE IT.

Unless it is intergrated in my nursing classes per se, I won't have to take chemistry. I only have to take microbiology. I wish that I could have done ALL of my pre requisites before as well, but if I didn't get into the nursing program this time, that is what I was going to do, but I got accepted the first time. Keep your fingers crossed....:)

yesssssssssssss it is a drag but if you just get just 1 drop more or less they say it could kill the patient or make them sicker i do not know why so much math seeing that lpns can only touch certain meds

I hit med surge next month but get this we also have to take 1 month of peds and 1 month of ob just to give you a taste of it in case you want to go deeper into it to me that is a waste of money because it serves no purpose seeing that you have to still go back to school to learn the whole specialty

almost all the teachers have been fired or resigned when the state stepped in and found that over half the students that had finished and went to take the nclex over 70% failed so we are now going to be placed on academic probation the people that took the state test said they did not really see anything we learned in this school on the stae test so what can you do to pass if we are not taught the proper way anyone please tell me
