Body Mechanics, sometimes they just don't work

All of my nursing career I have used good body mechanics. Yesterday afternoon, maintaining good body mechanics I bent my knees leaned down to pick up a book I had dropped and hurt my lower back. I can not straighten up, so I walk bent over like an old crone, shuffling my feet because it hurts. At least this goes along with my silver white hair. I'm currently sitting in bed, with my lap top on my lap, a heating pad on my back, goofier than usual from a soma and a percocette. I would rather be drinking a glass or two or three of a fine merlot. Sen our long haired tuxedo kittle has settled on my left hip, snuggled down and purring LOUDLY. Morgan my 90 lb golden retriever laying on my lower legs and feet, simply because Sen has taken up residence at my side, but now my legs and feet are asleep but the upside is they're warm. He's snoring, LOUDLY. I do not have the speech capacity with the meds to make calls this afternoon for my recruiting business. Unfortunately because of said drugs I simply don't care, so I'm playing here on nursinglink.

repetition also plays a part in injuries, that's how I injured my right shoulder. I injured it three years ago, and it stills hurt, when I pull upward. I am so sorry Dmaz about your back, keep applying heat, I had two lower back strains before, heat, and exercising help!!, try soaking in hot water, I use Lavender oil for my shoulder, knocks out the pain, don't use pain medication, did when I first injured my shoulder.

I am a proud mother of three beautyful daughter. I currently live in Los Angeles California. I've worked as a heathecare provider for almost 10 years. I am curently in school to pursue my MSN in nursing, and wants to work as a pediactric nurse, in public health.

Ok well I'd gladly trade places I'd love to soak in the tub, however I can't hardly get in, let alone get out of it. Lavender makes me sneeze and I prefer my nutmeg in apple pie

Al-did you mean nutmeg? or have you found a new wonder drug and are keeping it from the rest of us?

LOL, you are right, nutmeg, what was I thinking? My mind is on the brinks. Dmaz, I hope that you feel better, I would offer a lower back massage but you are three time zones away.

I use to be queen of the "mashed potatos" dance (anyone else remember it?) I tried to do it for my grandson the other day and it was a sad attempt I must say. My left leg wouldn't cooperate and was off doing it's own thing, while my right leg tried valiantly to keep going on it's own. I looked like one of those jumping men on a stick, arms and legs all going in different directions at the same time. My family just sat and stared at me opened mouthed as I stubbornly tried to "get it together". My grandson lost interest and wandered off into another room. Even after they all left, I kept trying until I became exasperated with myself. I'm still upset. I guess I'll have to pass the "mashed potatos" baton on to someone else. What the heck happened to me and when??

dmaz: I would be yelling if I could not get into my tub and soak. Feel better. Hope you are not laid up too long.

ROFL charlita, I can just picture it. Thanks everyone, I honestly, in my drugged state thought it was funny what I wrote, which is the only reason I posted it.

I was laughing so hard while I was typing the above post, I almost fell out of my chair! I was remembering every detail. (And cdnurse didn't even bat an eye!)
