I would love to hear from the military nurses, and to see how different working in the military differs from working for the private sector.

I would like to become a military nures when I get out of school. Preferably the Air Force. Then I also heard that the Navy has a nurse thing as well. Either way I'm joining one of them just not sure which one. I was considering the Air Force then I found out about the Navy. So if anyone has any information on either or please let me know. Thanks

I was in the navy for 4 yrs, got out and now I'm in my junior year of nursing school. I was an engineer. It really depends on what u plan to do. If u go to school now and get ur degree, u can go in as an officer, or u can take what the navy calls an ASVAB test and depending on ur score determines what job u may be eligible for. Even if u score well enough it isn't guaranteed that u will be able to go in as a hospital corpsman, it depends on the needs of the Navy and availability. BUT even if u don't go into medical side, u will get ur G.I.Bill when u complete 3 yrs of service, and that will pay for school. The university i go to is private and tuition is 30,000 a yr and it is covered by the G.I.Bill, or u could go into the military and apply for the officer program (u have to be accepted first) and then have the option to go to school for 4 yrs and get ur degree in nursing and still have a job in the Navy. I can only tell u about the Navy, but any military recruiter can give u info too.   Hope this helps

Hiya, this place has a most special area in my heart... My niece, is an Airforce nurse.. She went in right after college, and is now a Nurse Midwife.. that is something she has wanted, I think since she learned to speak..She will also receive her doctorate degree any time now.. Now granted, it hasn't all been a bed of roses.. She has had to of the most beautiful daughters, lost a set of twins in the later part of her pregnancy and had extensive brain surgery.. But she perserved it all..Her husband is in the Army and is also a career and is very high on the educational scale too.. So I think, needless to say, It's a great way to advance your schooling and the sky's the limit.. Best of luck to you and please keek us posted...Teresa
