Posted almost 6 years ago Kalshassen recently uploaded an article on his own experiences with patients vomiting blood. This is a subject that most nurses probably have experiences with. What techniques/strategies do you use in such situations? |

| Posted almost 6 years ago Too broad of a question, really. If it's blood streaked with little clots...typically from an irritation or just frequent retching. Give 'em a pan and some Zofran. If it's like the pt in the article where they're saying it's arterial...she needs to be scoped quick. That's weird. If it's darker and profuse and frank...maybe esophageal varices...bad stuff. Find the cause, replace the volume. |

| Posted almost 6 years ago Thanks RNdude. Really, I just wanted to feature kalshassen's intriguing article. I'm interested to know how long the process usually takes. Also, what does everyone think of the article? Does it paint a picture that's pretty similar to your real world experiences? |

| Posted about 5 years ago Pretty graphic. It was very well written though. Almost humorous. |
