I think Trauma nursing is one of the most stressful jobs out there. If I have already been an EMT, will that experience help me in any way to prepare for Trauma nursing?

This is a question I think lots of people deciding on Trauma nursing need to have answered.

Being an excitement junky helps. It's fast paced, continual learning experience, requires I think someone who can roll with the punches. I think it depends on where you've been an EMT, what your experiences are. Say an EMT in LA or NY or any other large city vs being an EMT in a smaller community

It will help you understand the overall approach to the trauma patient, depending on your volume of trauma calls. You're truly the front line of the hospital, receiving critically ill & injured patients with minimal notice or information. Being a medic will help you with critical thinking and being able to make quick decisions as the pt's condition changes.
