Posted about 5 years ago I am a stay at home Mom, I would like to start taking classes to get into the medical field so that when my son is ready to start k in 2 1/2 years I will have a profession I can get into? I would like to get an Assoc. in nursing to start and then go from there. I have 20+ administrative experience. Be honest I will not get offended. |

Posted about 5 years ago Great to start now. There are many pre-requsite classes you will have to complete before applying to a nursing program. Check in your area of what junior colleges offer and if any are online (it helps to do school at home with a little one). Hope that helps!

Posted about 5 years ago Do you think I will have to do all of the general ed classes first?

Posted about 5 years ago most likely all of the pre-reqs will be required unless you are a fresh grad with a high enough GPA to get right into the nursing program, but chances are slim. A lot of tech schools/jr. colleges also have night courses for the pre-reqs...not a bad idea to do some investigating. Good luck to you! Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, worn out and screaming "Woo-hoo"!!!

Posted about 5 years ago I also agree it is great to start now. Most of our area schools give more "points" when the pre-reqs are completed. So, it gives you a heads up to score more points and qualifications to be accepted into the nursing program. Strive to do your best because, the higher the GPA the more points you will score. Best of Luck! You can look online at the school you wish to attend to see what all pre-reqs you need to take. I finished most of my pre-reqs before starting a nursing program and I thought it really helped to just be able to focus on the nursing courses and not have all the busy work with the general classes, especially with kids at home!

Posted about 5 years ago tczarski said: You can also enroll to Lincoln Technical institute. I graduated from there 2 years ago. When got closer to graduation I herd that they were adding LPN and RN classes. I actually sat in on one of the lectures. I recommend this school to you and anyone else who is interested in pursuing their career in the health care field. The teachers work with you and all the experience is hands on and they also provide Internship.
