Hi! I just got into a CNA program though my local hospital... I'm so excited! I'm just wondering what kinds of things I'll go through in clinicals so that it's not a total shock to me. I'm fine with the theory, but otherwise feel I'm going in blind...

Congratulations.....you are the clean up girl. CODE BROWN----patient clean up. Empty urinals, colostomy's, Foley bags, bed changing, feeding, among other dirty things to do. Yet all in all, you will meet some of the sweetest people, and learn alot along the way. The longer you are in it, the better it gets.

BECOMING A C.N.A IS HOW YOU LOOK AT IT ... YOU DO ALL THE BASIC HYGEINE DUTIES... BUT YOU ALSO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF CARE NOT ONLY MAKING CLEAN AND SMELLING GOOD BUT BY MAKING THEM FEEL AT HOME...HELPING THE ELDERS TO FIND THAT CONNECTION THEY LOST BETWEEN LEAVING THEIR HOME AND BEING ADMITTED IN TO A SKILLED NURSING FACILITY

I just finished having a two day orientation with one RN and 3 C.N.A.s. I work in a 180 bed nursing home - I am the Staff Development Coordinator. Tthe C.N.A.s have one of the most important jobs in the facility. If we do not have the best C.N.A.s, we would be in terrible shape. You have to be able to work extremely hard and be loving and caring despite everything else that is going on. Congratulations on your new position and I hope that you enjoy your new venture. Continue on with your studies if you can and become a nurse!

Having the opportunity to work in a hospital is great! You will get to see alot more than you would in a nursing home. You will be doing all the things tmims said and more. Don't be afraid to ask questions to your nurses you are working with. They love to know that they have a CNA that wants to not only learn, but understand the expectations. I wish you the best of luck!

yeah, i figure that being a CNA will be excellent experience whlie i decide if the health care field is really for me... i'm taking my prereqs for nursing school but don't want to be completely unfamiliar with how a hospital or nursing facilliy works! plus, i'm not grossed out at all by bodily fluids, so i'm not terribly concerned about 'code brown,' hehehehe.
