Everyone should have basic healthcare...and if we'd change our focus to preventive medicine it could actually be affordable!

Yes you hit the nail on the head....  The answer is in prevention....  If the focus was more on the preventable problems then eventually the general health of the people would improve and we would see an overal decline in the need for this mass health care that we have today.  So many of our pts' problems stem from a preventable begining and then compound through the years because not enough was done to prevent and or fix the intial problem.  No not all health care problems are preventable, but so many do not have to end the way we see people suffering.

Everyone must have it!I am not in agreement for a universal health care tho.I am not sure what should be done in order to ensure every has adequate health care when they need it. What is the saying,  prevention is worth a pound of cure, it sure is!!

The premise that PREVENTION is critical to health care reform has been the key component driving the supporters of creating a National Nurse (www.nationalnurse.info ) Those of us that support this concept are enthusiastic about the current political window of  opportunity to make meaningful changes in the direction and delivery of healthcare, beginning with improved accessibility and a philosophical shift to prevention. This is nursing's opportunity to be at the table!  A National Nurse will do much to address the deficits in our system, enhance the image of nursing as a career, and provide guidance that will mobilize nurses to become active ambassadors for prevention in their communities.  Such a visible prominent role model will enhance recruitment, promote positive change built on the public's trust of nurses, and provide prestige to the nursing profession.  For more information visit the website and see  MEDSCAPE article: http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/576695_print   Join us in the growing grassroots nursing effort to advocate for our nation's health and our profession.
