Posted about 5 years ago I posted this in ultimate gifts group and wanted to pass it along to other students and nurses. This was read in my very first CNA class and I often remember it when I am having a bad day. Is there a poem or quote that expresses what the job of a nurse is all about? POST IT! What do you see, nurse... what do you see?
Who dribbles her food and makes no reply
Who seems not to notice the things that you do
Who, resisting or not, lets you do as you will
- I'm a small child of ten with a father and mother,
- A young girl of sixteen with wings on her feet,
- A bride at twenty, my heart gives a leap,
- At twenty-five now I have young of my own
- A woman of thirty, my young now grow fast.
- At forty, my young sons have grown up and gone,
- At fifty once more babies play 'round my knee
I think of the years, all too few, gone too fast
So open your eyes, nurse, open and see...
There is a response to this from nurses if anyone would like to read it as well. NURSE'S RESPONSE TO CRABBIT OLD WOMAN
What do we see, you ask, what do we see?
We would like far more time to sit by you and talk,
We grieve when we see you so sad and alone,
But nurses are people with feelings as well,
When the time has arrived for you to depart,

| Posted about 5 years ago Wow, I do believe that I have heard it before but not the nurses response that was also listed. Something I always liked was this quote When you're a nurse you know that every day you will touch a life or a life will touch yours. ~Author Unknown It was on my mom's clipboard for many years until it had to be replaced it always seemed so touching |
