I am a first semester accelerated nursing student. I am having the hardest time adjusting to and getting the nursing curriculum. I am feeling discoraged and down about myself. I am usually an A/B student and have not failed a class since my first semester as a freshman and I find myself sinking fast. Please if anyone has any advice I would appreciate it...I love nursing and could not see myself doing anything else. Thanks.

I UNDERSTAND!! I am in an accelerated program too! All I can say is study, study, study.... And get together with other students in your class to study with you! that way they can help you learn stuff you are having trouble with...Ask lots of questions, especially in theory class, and in clinical--DO EVERYTHING...the more you do the more comfortable you will be!

I am interested in hearing more about these accelerated programs. Anyone here who has gone through one?

Yes, i'm currently finishing up an accerlerated RN program(2 year). It can be difficut,we were all used to being "A" students, but be happy for your "C's", it's most important that you pass, not what u pass with because the grading scale in nursing is different. They want want you to learn so much in so little time. But dont tire out now, you are just at the fundamental level, you will soon be going into med-surg, and pharmacology, where they will expect way more from you...my advice is to focus on your critical thinking skills, when studying, focus more on assessments, nursing implications and interventions rather than the science(physiology) aspect of your readings....tests are usually focused on "what the nurse would do" in a given situation. Also get a solid study group, with people who are doing better than you....I know it's difficult, but they have little time to change your whole way of thinking, which is what the program is all about. Contact me with anymore questions and Good Luck!

Oh boy I can empathize with those statements I am in an accelerated program as well. what helps me is staying after class for about an hour or two and discussing things with fellow classmates. I have everyone on speed dial and on email alert and we constantly communicate to help each other through. We all learn differently so sometimes another person is able to explain something in a different way than the instructor to get your little "AHAA!" moment. Study groups are important.
