Posted about 5 years ago The news that four women, including one nurse, filed a law suit today against the surgical chief at Brigham in Boston...alleging the doctor was a complete old boy, sexist pig...are there more of them out there ? And what needs to happen to stop this? http://nursinglink.monster.com/news/2982-nurses-sexism-suit-rips-brigham-surgical-chief |

| Posted about 5 years ago Though the breed is slowly fading out, there are still many hanging on- we have a surgeon who is beloved by staff and yet uses the F* word in every other sentence and believes sexual inuendo is cute and funny. For those of staff who openly disapprove, they seem to find themsleves working in other rooms. But it is each nurse"s responsibility to speak up to the surgeon, CNM, administration regarding inappropriate behavior and document each interaction. it is also the nurse"s responsibility to help put an end to the stereo-typical media representation of nurses...for more information refer to the following link:

| Posted about 5 years ago Pam, I'm not at all surprised... not only is nursing a scientific career, which has traditionally been a male-dominated field; but nursing is construed as a 'female' occupation. So between being a 'female' occupation and commanding less pay, I'm not surprised that some of the male surgeons act like misogynistic pigs. |

| Posted about 5 years ago the "ol boy" network is alive and well everywhere, where the nurses do band together, depending how high up the network goes, they are usually dismissed with the arrogance that goes with the stigma. "he is a great Dr." "he is a benefit to the hospital" "you obviously took what he said the wrong way" or the best one "we will talk to him about this" < definition = we'll take him out for a drink and congratulate him for saying what we all wanted to say. I berated an ER Doc for damn near drooling as a nurse walked pas him, loud enough for most of the ED to hear me, and definitly loud enough for the nurse too. I GOT written up for insubordination. If any one really looks at the signature on the write up close enough, they will realize I scribble signed "kissm Yass" And verily, verily I say unto thee that some day it shall come to pass that from the earth there shall come a thundering roar, fire and smoke, and from the darkness, fire and smoke an Angel shall rise. Thou cannot speaketh his name for Hell follows him |

| Posted about 5 years ago Absolutely the ol boy network is alive and well, it hasn't faded. Doctors reign supreme in hospitals, because administration is so afraid they'll take their business elsewhere. So it's allowed to flourish. The one thing that has changed is doctors are reprimanded for physical assault and the only reason why is nurses will no longer put up with it and they press charges, so administration has to listen. You're a good man Mick |

| Posted about 5 years ago I've had my butt slapped, my boobs groped, I turned a paramedic into a saprano and got repremanded for it. the old boy network is, yes, alive and well, but so is the newage entitlement attitude. Sorry, but of the 20 somethings out there, few take responsibility for their actions and for some reason think the world owes them. They have no respect whatsoever for a woman, be she a mom, nurse or a teacher. We are there to be their toy, an obeject to be played with for a while then cast aside, and if we are abused, hey so what. BULLSH^T well, I love this quote
when you stroke your friends, they all feel better,,,,,,
