I was offered a job yesterday and it is really bothering me. The job is in a an assisted living facility. I was told that the job involves the usual things, helping residents with showers, disbursing medications, helping them get ready for bed, but I was also told that you have to make supper for the residents. There are 23 people in the home and I would be the only one there from 3 to 11. This seems like a lot of responsibility for one person. Especially for $8.25 per hour.
Would you take this job?

Jolynn1978- the fact you are questioning taking the job is the answer itself...depending on where you live you could work in the food service industry, just prepare food, not have the medical responsibilities and make almost the same money.
If you are considering the job, ask why the last person(s) left and if you may contact them.

It seems dangerous to have only 1 person from 3-11. What if someone falls or has trouble, you woud be tied up with that person and not have time to finish your duties. Plus everyone else would be neglected while you cared for that one patient. It seems like alot for one person without fixing the meal. Preparing the meal and serving it would take up alot of your time and who cleans up-you? Plus, there are meds to be passed with the evening meal. I can't believe they expect one person to do all this. Patients in assisted living need alot of help sometimes. It's not like it was when assisted living facilities first opened-now alot of assisted living patients are very close to being nursing home patients. And anyone can fall or have low blood sugar or high blood pressure. It seems very risky. I wouldn't want all that responsibility. And not for that pay!

No way. You can make more working at a dress shop and get a discount.

I am with cdnurse! I think I would rather work at Starbucks (they offer great benefits, AND a discount, I believe!)....I also agree that if you are questioning whether you should actually accept the job offer, then follow your gut/heart!! If you don't take the job, then I am a firm believer that there are bigger and certainly better things ahead for you....best of luck!

I would run as fast as I could away from that place. It sounds like nothing but trouble. There are too many other jobs out there that would pay more and be alot less stressful.
