Have a BA, fastest way to RN?

Posted about 5 years ago I am new to this site, so I’m sorry if I am posting my question in the wrong place :) I graduated from a University with my BA in 2004, but I am now considering a nursing career. I HAVE to work full time at my current job until I can get a full time job that can pay my bills in the medical field. I live in Northern California and don’t know where to start. I have been trying to do some research online, but I need some advice. I see that online programs sometimes require people to already be RNs to get into their programs. What is the easiest way for someone who has a BA to become an RN? Thank you for helping me! Check out my blog: http://myfinanciallessons.blogspot.com/ |

| Posted about 5 years ago If you're lookng for a fast way to become an RN and money is not an object, you can try Samuel Merritt College. I checked them out but stopped when I saw that they charge close to $50k for a BSN. I already have a BA degree too. I chose the Community College route where it's cheaper. I have already incurred a $30k loan from obtaining my BA degree. I am enjoying taking prereq classes right now. I am taking it all in - one semester at a time. My employer will reimburse tuition costs for up to $1500 per calendar year as long as I get a C grade. Once I'm done with prereq classes, the costs for the ADN-RN Program will be $1500 which I will end up paying out-of-pocket myself. I also live in Northern California where the cost of living is outrageous yet house prices continue to decline (good news for buyers but bad news for homeowners). I go to Sacramento City College. They are working with California State University Sacramento (4-yr college) to 'bridge' Sac City College nursing students into their BSN Program. The ADN-RN Program at Sac City would last 3 semesters and then the student would continue at Sac State for one more semester to obtain the BSN-RN. They only accept 10 students per cohort though, probably based on GPA or something. |

I'm thinking about taking the prereqs online so that I can get them out of the way over the summer. I start volunteering at my local hospital this Saturday! Good luck with everything and keep me posted on your progress! Check out my blog: http://myfinanciallessons.blogspot.com/ |
