A couple of months ago, there was an article here on nurses wearing their scrubs out in public. Where can I find that article?

I think it was under news articles and it was from the UK. a nurse was fired if i recall for wearing her uniform in public. Stupid reason to get fired over.

I would think so too.....I do realize the thing about cross-contamination, but if that were the case, wouldn't hospitals make you shower before leaving work? Besides that is why we have standard precautions. I wouldn't want to have to take a change of clothes everytime I went to work.

If hospitals are going to cry over this they need to provide scrubs daily to their nurses. Hell, I took the kids grocery shopping tonight in mine.

Surgical scrubs if worn outside the hospital need to be changed prior to going back into restricted area of OR. AORN Standard.

the nurse here in Norfolk Va. went in his scrubs to a store with a dead patient's credit card to buy a laptop / That's how he was spotted on the store's video tape. *Just a side note

Of course my employers provide our scrubs and they pick the colors. There is nothing wrong with that. I'm rather thankful that I don't have to purchase them. Our office manager happened to pick out bright orange scrubs for us with a print jacket. Without the jacket we looked like we should have been part of the chain gang litter pickup crew. If we went to the store we always got very strange looks with that particular color. Ecspecially if we didn't wear the jacket.

Have you noticed when wearing scrubs out in public that you are more respected? I have a lot of people opening doors for me especially men. And people tend to say hi more also. Very interesting. They say that nursing is one of the most respected professions and I guess they are right.

I agree....great respect when wearing scrubs in public:) I don't go anywhere on my way to work, but lots of times I do stop after work to run errands, etc......hospitals should definitely provide scrubs if they want to set up the safest scenario....I know that at my facility, they provide scrubs for OR nurses/techs/docs and they also provide them for the nurses in the NICU

Hospitals provide scrubs for the OR and NICU because they have to do so. Standards of care require it. If they didn't have to do so, believe me they wouldn't.
