I have 2 schools to decide from and they are both about 20,000. where do i get this kind of money without getting a bank loan??? Help going back to school is scary enough, how will i pay for this.???

$20,000. for an LPN program seems awfully steep. Have you checked into any community colleges?

I used my retirement for tuition in LPN school, now Im trying for my RN and having to work, my employer reimburses me for tuition, but not books. Some hosp will pay your school if you agree to work for them.

Where do you live? 20 grand is way too much to spend for an LPN program. You need to check into state schools, votech or community college.

I live in Southern New Jersey, I only found 2 schools that offer the lpn course, this is Lincoln tech that I am talking about, this is the only school that has nights classes. And I went up there today for a tour and all that good stuff. the price is 23,111.00 total for everything, books, equip, scrubs everything. This is very frustrating for me. I choose a career school because with college i have to take all the the prereq courses 1st. i have no college experience what so ever. With my life I have be home to get my children on the bus in the morning, then I go to work I get home from work shortly after they get home from school. My only time would be nights I can't do day school, and with this school i would go monday n tuesday nights 6-10p and do clinical everyother weekend sat n sun. n 2 years Im a lpn. worst part for me is it was all ok until the weekend was told to me today, my husband only has off every other weekend so he was not happy about that. I also have to take an enterance exam and some of the math on this exam I was never even taught. Today I toke a fast pre exam test (short one) and the math forget it I guessed!! then I come home an my 17 year old says oh yeah this is this and this is, it was no sweet to her. I mean Im not dumb but alot of the stuff makes no sense to me. As much as I hate to say it, I will probley say forget all of it. I am very depressed over this. I wanted to get my schooling done before my daughter graduates next year but doesn't look like that is gonna happen!

As for funding I thought I couldnt afford school either all these years. When I was first accepted into the college I had to do 24 hours with all grades above a c or they would kick me out. meanwhile I couldnt get spouse tuition paid because i was on academic probation until my 24 hours were done. I spoke with finacial aid there at teh college and they found me all the money I needed plus extra to live on. They partly are loans but there were grants also. You might see if this school has this department. Also check into getting scholarships or something once you have got some schooling done. Hope this helps.

WOW that's a lot of money I'm going to my community college for the RN program and we don't even pay that much. I agree with Gregs that you should apply for financial aid, scholarships or for grants, they will help out a lot if you do, speak with the college to see if they can help.

It is expensive, I am a second semester nursing student.  It took a long time to find the right fit for me (school) and jump through all the hoops, but I feel good about where I am at.  Financially, I wish I could say the same.  It has been a very difficult year.  My husband is self employed and I have two children, 12 and 14 and I have created a mound of debt.  I have had to work at finding a way to balance being a wife, mother and student .  But like the saying goes.... "anything worth doing is going to be hard".  There is hope, just try to think positive, (be an example for your kids) there is financial aid available and a lot of employers have reimbursement incentives after you graduate :)  Good Luck

WOW!!!!!!!!! That's very expensive.  I have a detailed list of everything from books to scrubsto supplies to testing fees.  My total was about $4,500.00.  Out of pocket I spent about $500.00 on extra items.  Considering this was an 18 month program.

In 1990-1991, I attended a Technical School for my LVN and for one year full time it was 10K.  I can see how that same school may be doubled in price now,  17 years later.  Those types of colleges are very expensive.  I had no choice, it was the old have to work to then further myself as an RN.  And 17 years later I am back in school again, (two tries before),  I guess everything in it's own time.  Like my father going from the SO CA senior division triathilon and bodysurfer champion, to having colon CA with mets to his liver.  On to Hospice he went, and I quit my 2nd semester of pre-reqs to be his caretaker.  It was the best gift HE ever gave me!!  The ability to help my dad leave this earth in dignity and grace.  It did help that I had been a Hospice nurse before being able to go back to school in person........All in it's OWN time.......

I think my total for nursing school (RN) will be between 10000 to 12000 for the 2 years at our local community college.  I think that it sounds like way too much money for LPN.

Also look into Fastweb.com they have scholarships to apply for.

Hope that helps you.

I am attending a local university here in Georgia.  It isn't nearly that much.  Look into other programs at different schools.

It seems that the local PRIVATE junior colleges, such as Healds are charging 20,000.00 for LVN. You should be able to get grants or scholarships to help.

But the city colleges or local adult schools for about 1/4 of the price.  it just depends on your rush to get the certificate.  I feel the local colleges might be a better all around education at a decent pace.

At present, I am going  to an adult school, which is a VERY excellerated course......Pharmocology in 5 weeks.  If I could start again, I would go to the local city college.
