I am having a hard time finding the apical pulse. I know it's midclavicular and the 5th intercostal space. Is there an easy way to find the location without having to count each space?
Thanking you in advance for your assistance on this matter.

Have them lay on their left side because it will make the impulse stronger...or if the person is sitting up move your stethascope around up one or two rib spaces, down one or two, to the left more, to midline more...some people are not in the textbook spot...and sometime the apical pulse it just really hard to hear... or feel.

nipple line.....towards the midline, and like SunnieDay said, if you don't get it right away, move up or down a rib space or two:)
