Clinical options for BSN program

Posted about 5 years ago Hi, I am new to this website but love what it represents. And I also have questions. I was just admitted into an accelerated BSN program. Excited and a bit apprehensive! I am wondering how the clinicals usually work - do you begin in certain areas or just work through all the major depts or do you CHOOSE which you want to be in and stick with those the majority of the time? If so, how do you decide where you should be so that time or opportunity is not wasted? Currently, I am leaning toward L&D or ICU, but I also want to do what will fit my own talents of which I have no idea what they are! Is there enough all around training provided before hand that allows for discovering where these proficiencies might lie before needing to decide on a primary area of clinical commitment? Thanks for any feedback in this area. |

| Posted about 5 years ago No, you don't have options of what clinicals you take, you have to take them all. Any nurse, regardless of what area they decide to specialize in has to have a well rounded education. As for which you'll start first depends on your class rotation. Most, not all start out with med/surg. |
