Posted about 5 years ago How many of you LPN"s have been affected by the "Likes to Play Nurse" we LPN"s get for our title? In today's world RN stands for Real Nurse? Are any of you experiencing this in your current job? |

Posted about 5 years ago I have been a LPN for 11 years, and I have been working on my assoicaite RN just as long.....(three kids and a husband later) I am three quarters from completing my RN. The number one thing that has bothered me the most, is experiencing the accomplishment of becoming a nurse, and being so happy about it, but everyone around me has acted as if it isn't good enough. "Don't you want to be a REAL nurse?" Well....of course I want to continue my education and make myself better, however, " who was that lady giving those antibiotics, starting that IV, taking care of you when you were sedated, assessing your situation and needs at all times, and monitoring your vital signs for changes. That was me..the LPN....I guess I just like to play nurse, and once I have the degree, they will actually notice what I have been doing with all my time. lol..... Maybe their mental status was just off, ya think?

Posted about 5 years ago I don't understand this mentality. I've been an RN for over 30 years. Is my scope of practice broader than an LPN's? Yes it is. Is my responsibility more than yours? Yes it is. However, you and other LPN/LVN's are NURSES. You've been educated, trained and have the experience to do what you do. It makes me really angry, when others, say are you a real nurse? I blame alot of this mentality on primary care nursing. It was not like this when team nursing was the norm.

Posted about 5 years ago I think LPN's are important. An LPN is an LPN and an RN is an RN, both nurses. Similar, but their scopes of practice are slightly different.

Posted over 4 years ago LPN pay equals RN with associate degree pay. when i became a asd RN i made same as i made as a LPN wit taxes out my pacycheck! (The more you make the more taxes taken out!) As a BSN my salary is kinda different from both.

Posted over 4 years ago Okay I've heard all the names: LPN- Little Pretend Nurse, RN- Retarded Nurse, Ridiculous Nurse, Replica Nurse practitioner I've been reading alot of the comments on this site Whether LPN or RN you both are nurses! I've had LPNs and RNs work for me i really see no difference. I dont understand why you dont just ALL be called: NURSE! F* the RN, LPN title.

Posted over 4 years ago Wouldn't expect you to understand, "doctor". beebee, I guess it matters on the locale as far as pay. LPN's make quite a bit less than RN's (& ADN's & BSN's performing the same job have no difference in pay in this arena).

Posted over 4 years ago there is a difference in RN vs. LPN (or LVN depending on state title). and one would not see the difference without exploring it themselves and then realizing the liability resides with the RN especially in a team nursing approach... i do agree that an LPN has the legal right to call themselves a nurse. a CNA MA or EMT/Tech in the ER has no right to call themselves a nurse and i correct this whenever i hear it... look at the multitude of times the media reports a nurse has abused a patient as reported by our "responsible journalists on TV" later to find they are an assistant or health aid... the misrepresentation is never apologized for, or retracted. the title of nurse is earned not just in classes nclex exam passed. but also in continuing our education and in our treatment of the patient themselves in the world of "educational snobbery" you can also hear that the non-BSN RN is NOT a professional. what the @#$% ? i always seem to hear this one from a doctorate or masters nurse...do multiple papers and thesis statements knock screws loose in peoples heads? hey last time i checked profession vs occupation has been described as profession having a calling and a higher level of education... hmm 2 years general ed and 2 years focused study equals bachelors of science....2 years focused pre reqs and 2 years of terror and harrassment in an RN program equals disrespect and disdain from WHAT other nurses?!?!?!?!? it is no wonder that nursing is fragmented, the doctors and administration laugh at being able to manipulate and browbeat us with increasing assignment as we roll over belly up and ..ok. and when you step into the Halls of higher learning to pursue your BSN or other degrees all you hear from the "pulpit" is how that instructor who has a crapload of letters after their name but hasn't moved their behemoth butt on a nursing floor for over a dozen years is somehow better, more proficient, and more professional due to her adding BS or more in front of their nursing title i am not against increasing education.. i am following that path also lets face it titles are titles and working is work....if i fan a title over a freshly dead person would it defibrillate them? hmmm well witch doctor i'm not jb working rn
