Posted about 5 years ago As a 50+ student (Practical Nursing) I have been recently chastised by my instructor for not recognizing the "boundaries" (her word) between her, as the instructor, and myself, as the student. It seems she feels that I have been inappropriate because I have questioned the upcoming scheduling of clinical rotations. (to be held in July to September). My position is that as a PAYING student, I should have the right to ask questions and in showing my concern and willingness to secure my own sites I am simply doing what I have done all my life... accepting responsibility for my own success. Her view (if I understand her correctly) is that I should not question when things will be done, or where; but should be willing to trust the college and her (as my instructor and the acting program director) to make the necessary arrangements. Let me add that some members of the class that graduated this past quarter ended up completing one of their rotations on the DAY of their capping and pinning.

| Posted about 5 years ago Unless you are dictating to them what and how things should be done (and I don't think you are) they should appreciate a student who is concerned enough to take an active role in her education. what type of organization is this program through? The reason I ask is we are having a rash of private schools beginning programs and we are having problems with them on many levels- from credentialing, to quality of students, to poor understanding of what the clinical experience should consist of. |

| Posted about 5 years ago How about instructors that do not motivate their students but instead like to make them feel as if the students don't know anything? Telling the students that they could teach a 6 year old to catheterized a patient. As a student we are not confident in our skills as we are learning but being positive and praising goes along way to increase our self esteem. Who wants to be made to feel like you are stupid? As the instructors say "nursing eat their young". |
