Posted almost 6 years ago I will be doing a 7 week rotation in psych this Fall. Any advice on what to do/not to do? How best to deal with the patients? I am really nervous about psych nursing. |

Posted almost 6 years ago Most students are nervous about psych. Forget all the movies. Just know any one of us could be in a psych hospital at any time. I would be surprised if you had no classmates that had been hospitalized. You will love it!

Posted almost 6 years ago Hehe.. yes, I would not be surprised if there were any students who had been hospitalized for psych problems at one point or another.. I know what it's liek to be a patient, just not in psych... we'll see.

Posted almost 6 years ago Mental health rotation in nursing school was my favorite. I enjoyed interacting with the patients. I always tried to show them alot of respect whenever i conversed with them. I guess that is my advice for you.

Posted almost 6 years ago I agree with meals I'm in a psych course right now. I'm very interested in pursuing this as a specialty. I think the most important thing is to not let people get under your skin. You have to approach them as challenges rather than people in immediate need. It's quite different than emergency nursing.
