I find the games in break time from time-to-time to be fun. It seems to me though that lately this site has become more of a place to play games than to be really serious about nursing subjects. Do not take me wrong, I am not saying we all need to be nerdy all of the time. It just seems to me that we have gotten away from the purpose of this site. When I first came onto the site I saw far more with the forums and with articles being submitted to the library and discussions going with them. Any one agree with me?

I do agree with you...............but how can I justify getting out of work by playing around on-line if I am still discussing nursing topics???

Shan. I hear ya. Again, I am not saying NO games. I am saying let's cut back on them. Way too many games and not enough nursing.

I absolutely agree with you cd.  I've hesitated to say anything before this.  There are so many issues needed to be discussed but most everyone seems to ignore them and play games instead.

Silliness is the reason I keep a MySpace. Asking for and sharing help, advice, support, stories, and commiseration is why I come here.

I agree with cdnurse, here. When I came here the first time I saw a good mix of serious and mix and match of fun and silly. We all need to lighten up a bit. But I think we've gone too far in the lighten up direction and need to head back to the center a bit, following a compass of WHAT IS NURSING AND WHAT ARE NURSES  ABOUT?

What makes us tick? Sure, what makes us laugh and what we do in our down time is important, as is getting to know the wants and needs of other nurses, student nurses and  people thinking about entering nurses. But what are the general issues today? What do you think of male nurses in the L and D?

Nurses have good heads on their shoulders. Good for good fun and GOOD for serious chat and discusion. I love to come on here and find that I'm able to partake in a welll-rounded smidge of light coffee-table talk and 'let's talk turkey' talk!

Annie, thanks for your remarks. A nice even balance is what we need. I miss the nursing topics and the discussions that we had when I first came onto the site.

Well folks, I haven't been here that long, but I do find what I need here, so far anyhow, on topics under the articles and they have been very helpful.  I guess what I am saying here is, The forums I haven't mess with much, I come to the site to read on things that are new to me, and seek more information and seem to find it so far.  Even for decision making.  Games?  Hmm...Not quite sure again what this site used to be like.  I do find the questions a learning tool for me, especially since I haven't even gone to college as of yet.  New words, I write down and look them up in the dictionary and new terms I look up on medical dictionary.  I haven't found anything about this site I do not like as of yet.  I seek knowledge, a heads up on what's to come for me in the future and seek serious friendships to guide me along the way.  Guess I just made a comment so you could see from a newcomer's eyes.

Thanks CD for the heads up on this topic.

Jettysgirl: you will get plenty from this site. Sounds like you have a real thirst for knowledge. You will do well in school as you are taking some responsibly for learning. When I am speaking of the games, I am not speaking of the nursing games. I am speaking of all of the silly sidetracks we have all made under Break Time. It seems to me that more time is spent under Break Time than anywhere else.

cdnurse: I have to agree with you on most games. I have found "The game" to be helpful with the medical questions.  I am in nursing school so it gives me a chance to "study" while having fun too. I haven't really gotten into any of the other games mainly because I don't have time.  I also think this site is all about you make of it.

Christie. You are right, it is what we make of it. That is what has me distressed. The site seems to be more into the break room than anything else. The Game that you are speaking of is great. We need that one here. It is a great learning tool for students and a nice refresher course for the rest of us.

I totally agree CD. I am so thankful for all the discussions, friends here on nursing link. I do agree with all the game playing, is getting a bit out of hand, I try to stay away from all the games, I use to play think fast, but you can look at it lately, and see I haven't played on it laterly, that's because I am studying, and preparing myself, to become a nurse. I do get emails from all friends, with questions about nursing, and I am so glad to have been a helped to all of them. CD, I totally agree with you, about all the games, and I have been getting emails, from young guys, boys, who want to go out with me. Nursinglink is not a dating link, so please, if you are not interesting in nursing as a career or not interesing in receiving  any nursing advice, don't  ask me to be your friend, sorry CD, I had to put that out there. Nursinglink should be for nursing related subjects only!!!.

I don't want to go to jail!!!, that's what I mean Cd, people are using this site, like a My Space or something, one guys said, he was looking for his future mate. He was not interesting on commenting on any of discussions, but making a discussion, on what love was. come on, who cares!!!

cdnurse,  I, too, agree with you.  I find some really great nursing topics and I go there and no one has been there for a longgg time.  I go to 'Most Recent', and it is always the word chain.  Hey, I'm a word gal, an auditory learner that includes reading and vocabulary, so I look forward to anything that makes my mind use a chain reference to another set of words or topic.  Let's do one that is all nursing 'words'?  And like cuttie said, I felt a tad uncomfotable with a few emails I recieved from men also.  I don't mind new freinds, but as she said, this is so not a dating site!  Let's put our heads together and think of some new and fresh topics to attack.  C'mon angels; we can do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And in the meantime......you can find me over at "Think Fast"!  What?  It's a game?   Well, I was never known to pass up on anything to do with words.  There.  I validated myself.

there are alot of games CD, maybe to many, who knows.

I come here to "forget" and unwind, but some of the articles and nursing discussion are interesting. And seeing what the students are going through now vs. 20 years ago is also interesting. Although I'm in a completely different area from "general" nursing, I am learning what y'all have to put up with and go through.

as for the "dating link" LMAO, I've had my share of messages as well.

CD, you'll be happy to know i don't spend much time playing the games because i am usually here to find nursing friends, advice or to learn of some new medical headline to stay in the know.  I don't believe i have ever played a game on this site before.  I have noticed a lot of word games in the topics area though.   This site is so useful to me as far as learning and I guess that's where my focus is.  I hope that new topics will continue to be written and new articles are posted.  In my position now, i struggle to keep my nursing skills up to date and any new info excites me.  I agree that the games are a bit much.....there is a limit ya know.   As far as your subject line....piss people off?  I wouldn't worry about that.  Trust me, i do it for a living.  Do you think anyone ever says "Yea, infection control is here to inspect my ward and i have everything in compliance to JACHO standards."  I guess i am just callus now to what people think.  We are all taught to see things objectively and last time i checked we all still have the right to an opinion, so kudos to you for shedding light on the elephant in the room!

So...what now?

Angel eyes, what is "general"  nursing?

RNdude, everytime she makes that comment it gets under some ones skin.  We're a level 1 trauma flight team, her referrence to "general" falls under the category of in house RN's. It's by no means a slap in anyones face.

It's ok, we've been classified as the ones who "don't play well with others in a confined space"

And verily, verily I say unto thee that some day it shall come to pass that from the earth there shall come a thundering roar, fire and smoke, and from the darkness, fire and smoke an Angel shall rise. Thou cannot speaketh his name for Hell follows him

So...what now?

Angel eyes, what is "general"  nursing?

general, as in, in house you have a regiment, you pretty much know "what's next", you have access to others immediate help and/or opinions. We on the other hand can only get radio com. advice from some one miles away who has no physical idea of the situation. Trust me, there are times I wish I was in "general" nursing, knowing what my shift hours will be, knowing I can clock out and go home, not get stranded somewhere due to weather or mechanical issues.

I wasn't slamming anyone RNdude, we ALL worked hard to get where we are.

I say to each his own. This site is great for learning, having fun, and getting to know people. Some use it only for information, some use it to have fun and help relieve some stress, and some use it for both. I say if you're looking for information ask and you will receive, if you;re wanting to give information reply to someone asking for help, if you wanting to play games then by all means play. If you don't want to play, don't. There is still lots of good information on here and lots of people willing to give help and receive help. Just my two cents worth.

cdnurse-I  hear ya! I'v been thinking the same thing. While I do enjoy some of the games and they are a diversion and a stress reliever, I miss the old discussions we use to have on here. It seems no one really reads the news items that are submitted. Most people now are wanting to make new friends and tag each other. I like a mix of both, but it seems the serious discussions have been sorely lacking lately.

Well, Char, let's get them started again. There are enough of us who have been on here since the begining to get back to the nursing side. Yes, I like the jokes etc just like everyone but it just seems to me that it is all jokes now. You have put up some great articles

You don't see how lumping every nursing specialty located within a hospital as "general" could potentially be insulting to any of us?  Wow, you're not arrogant.

RNdude: You are so correct about "general nursing" The "general nurse" is long gone. Technology has seen to that. We are all now specialist in one area or another. I do not know aboud any of you but I sure do not get to just clock out and go "when the shift ends". As far as knowing what is in store for me everyday:  I have not ever had a day like that in nursing.

I wasn't trying to piss any one off with the "general" comment, as I also said "we ALL worked hard to get where WE are"

Yes, almost every one is specialized somewhere, me, I specialized in flight/Trauma nursing. and "shift end" yes, you may have to stay longer, but have you ever been stranded for 4 days due to an ice storm and can't fly?

If you look at the body of the statement, in house nursing, you have more options, more help available and more access to technology, we have a radio communication and wireless relays that are at best some what consistent.

I have alot of respect for all of us, I'm sorry if my comments were taken out of context. It's like our flight team being referred to as nothing more than paramedics.
