Angel- to be honest, I did not even notice the word "general" in your post above until it was pointed out. For what it's worth, you didn't offend me. I will say that I am jealous of your position, though. I would love to do flight nursing. If I was younger and did not need to have regular hours, it is something I would check into. I have a friend of mine that is a flight nurse with one of the larger trauma hospitals in our states. I love to hear her stories!

Hey Carol, I was not at all offended. Pissed offf? No not at all. Feel that it was a little bit of a disparaging remark? Yeah,  a  little I just did not want any one new or any one of the students to think that any one job is cushier than the other. Each one of the specialties has its pros and cons.  I have known several people from trauma teams. I have worked with trauma teams. Not flight, but trauma teams. Tornadoes, floods, Katrina, WorldTradeCenter.

I think more than anything it is just the term “general” nursing. It just conjures up the old soap opera/TV series image of the nurse who worked every floor and bowed to the doctors. Just no longer the case.

I don't stay annoyed too long.  I'm pretty familiar with the trials & tribulations of a major hospital-based helicopter flight service.  I'm looking out my window at one of their EC-145's sitting on the pad just outside.  Their crews work hand-in-hand with us in the ED and I actually married one of their flight nurse/paramedics 10 years ago.  She has since become an ER nurse and, just to make sure I wasn't just sensitive, read the posts to her.

It's good for us to feel that what we do is "all that", but at the same time we must be cognizant of the fact that other people aren't that impressed.  I think trauma/emergency nursing is the greatest thing ever & can't imagine doing anything else.  Taking care of several critically ill patients at the same time is a bit stressful at times.  We all have parts of the job that are unforeseen and undesirable, but we have chosen our lot and accept that those times are a part of the deal.

Angeleyes, I know that you have respect for other nursing specialties and I appreciate that.  I don't think your flight team being referred to as paramedics is an insult at all.  You are dual licensed as registered paramedics as well, right?  Paramedics are spectacular people around here & that's generally the license the flight nurses practice under on scene flights.  It's a big world and we all have our little piece and thank God that there are people in our profession willing to take them on.

CD...hey you are NOT a nerd!!!!!   Being intelligent, interesting, and sweet are NOT nerdy characteristics.  I do agree that we are getting a bit out of hand with the games.  I think when I first got really active, I wanted to participate in just about anything.  I stay at home all day with my kids, so I get bored. I probablly have contributed to the problem.  I will keep it more serious.  I start class this summer, so I am sure I will be filled with topics on Nursing.  Thanks for the reminder

Well I think jumping on a colleague for a choice of words you disliked is rather rude.  So Angel said general nursing in stead of hospital based nursing.  She was also very direct when she said her flight team had been refered to "as nothing more than paramedics"  This wasn't anything against paramedics, she quoted what has been said to her.  get a grip

There were not a lot of games on this site when I first joined. I don't really know what games are on here now because I am in nursing school and too busy to be on this site much. I am busy with work and school.

Sorry I don't think it's near enough.  It's called sabotage and eating our young.  What kind of examples are we setting for nursing students and those who are thinking of  becoming nurses?  If this kind of behavior is allowed here, then it's allowed to be rampant in the work place. RNdude and tdage need to apologize to Angel and they need to look at themselves for nit picking and and not reading the entire paragraph and taking things out of context.   If I said these things, I would hope someone would point it out.

This makes me angry and people need to be held accountable for their actions.  I'm sick to death of this kind of behavior.

You know what?  Never mind.  Comment redacted.

Hold yourself accountable.  I'm done.

So...what now?

Angel eyes, what is "general"  nursing?

general, as in, in house you have a regiment, you pretty much know "what's next", you have access to others immediate help and/or opinions. We on the other hand can only get radio com. advice from some one miles away who has no physical idea of the situation. Trust me, there are times I wish I was in "general" nursing, knowing what my shift hours will be, knowing I can clock out and go home, not get stranded somewhere due to weather or mechanical issues.

I wasn't slamming anyone RNdude, we ALL worked hard to get where we are.

this has gone so far it's getting funny, the ignorance and arrogance of some people, what, no one here has ever mis-spoken or made a mistake?

she left the board and not coming back, Jesus, let it die already you won.

Angel you did not offend me! Go girl you speak your mind. That is what makes us all special. But what I dont understand...the few that are complaining about too many games arent you the ones who started them? Dont get me wrong, I like to play and unwind too, but I also am on here to learn information, new topics and meet all the great people. So for the people who dont want to play the games, dont! Check out all the other topics that are offered.

Mickey-noone won. This is a site where people are encouraged to express their opinions and when they do, they get bashed. Everyone has a right to their opinion. I may not agree with yours but I'll defend your right to espress it.  Come on guys, this was just a group discussion. Let it go!

back to the original topic. Steph: no one is saying to play NO GAMES, Those who have posted are saying we need to get back to what the link first started out to be and just play less games. We need to get back to more of the discussions, that's all. When was the last time anyone submitted an article to the library? There have been no discussions on the news articles. No need for anyone to be touchy or to say “well you played, why can’t we play?” That is not the point at all. Play all you want, we just need to get back to the purpose of the site. Nothing more, nothing less.

THe games are fun and break up tension from a crazy day of clinicals and studying for me.

If no one wants the games to be played....then lets take them off.

From what I see on the site, there seems to be a good balance of everything. Fun and games along with good stories that fill the heart.

I have posted lots of articles and videos and seems no one is reading them. Of course on the other hand it's kind of aggravating when you submitt an article and then a day later someone else submits the same article. It just goes to show that they are reading the articles when they submit one that was submitted the day before or even a few hours before. I know I have learned alot from the articles and videos. I find myself telling people at work about what I've seen or read.

I like both the articles and the games. If you don't want to play the games, you don't have to. But like Starlight said, noone is reading the articles or at least commenting on them. And alot of them are really good and informative. Is this week Nurses' week?

I find the games in break time from time-to-time to be fun. It seems to me though that lately this site has become more of a place to play games than to be really serious about nursing subjects. Do not take me wrong, I am not saying we all need to be nerdy all of the time. It just seems to me that we have gotten away from the purpose of this site. When I first came onto the site I saw far more with the forums and with articles being submitted to the library and discussions going with them. Any one agree with me?

I agree with cd nurse here. The games are a fun BREAK. But, they're getting to be the norm, execpt for political posts. Can we have  INTELLIGENT break activites and INTELLIGENT political discourse and other nursing news found in all other areas of this site? I think we're all capable of it.

I don't think it's the games that are the problem but the format on this site that doesn't divide the games from nursing topics

I enjoy the games-they're the reason I came back to this site. ( I see not much has changed around here!)
