Posted about 5 years ago Hi, my name is crystal, I will be starting my CNA training in July. I really excited and a little scared because I'm 43. It's been a long time since I had to learn anything very complicated. And the idea of walking into a classroom full of pretty .....young faces is rather intimidating. Has anyone else gotten a late start on their careers? How was it? how do employers feel about hiring middle age people? I have so many questions. Thanks, Crystal |

Posted about 5 years ago Don't worry. The older students are the best students. They have life experince, maturity, and determination. You will be fine.

Posted about 5 years ago I have to agree with cdnurse-the older the nurse the more mature he/she is. I am 38 and I will be finishing a PN program this summer. I wish I would have done it earlier, but I guess it happened when it was right for me. Good luck in your studies and your carreer.

Posted almost 5 years ago Hi, Don't worry about being older. I am forty-six and have been working as a CNA for the past two years. I am in my third semester at Laboure College in Dorchester Massachusetts and I hope to start my clinicals this winter. A few things always to remember. Always identify yourself and check the patients wrist band or tag. Wash your hands going in and coming out of each room. You will be fine, believe in yourself. Any questions, let me know. Good luck, Diane

Posted almost 5 years ago i am 49 years old, and i went through the LPN program 5 years ago and am in the RN program now, you are never too old to learn, quite the contrary is true...! The girls in my class are average mid thirties to forties. Our oldest is somewhere around 60's , she won't tell us her real age...can't say I blame her...but she is the best in the class when it come to HESI testing, which is the practicing for state boards. I admire everybody who dares to care and go back to school for nursing. We need nurses as everyone is well aware of I am sure! DARE TO CARE-BE A NURSE.

Posted almost 5 years ago Don't worry, you will be fine. Just a month ago I started the CNA program through one of the local nursing homes. I am 43 as well, and I graduated 3rd in the class behind a premed student and a medical assistant changing to nursing This was a complete career change for me. But my thereory is this, you are older, more mature, and even more determined to prove yourself and you will do what it takes to excel. Best of luck! I'm sure you will do great!
