Okay- I have an Associate of Science in Nursing. If I were to go back and receive a BS in Health Science, would it carry just as much weight with employers as a BSN? I have over 15 years nursing experience, so I am not a "new" nurse. I guess I am looking for an easier route to a BS degree. I really do not want the hassle of clinicals or the other hoops that go along with nursing school. Any suggestions?

a BS in Helath Science will not help you much in nursing.

My BS degree is in Health Care Leadership. It does not open all doors--it is opening the doors that I want to go through. Carefully consider your personal objectives and what the "requirements"  are to reach them.  Once you have a clear goal you will find the right path for you. There are also RN with a BS (other than nursing) to MSN programs available. Most require an average of 3 nursing fundamental courses to "bridge" into the program.

I know that this particular degree will not necessarily help in nursing, I was hoping that with my experience plus a BS degree it would carry about as much weight with employers. Am I kidding myself? I really would like to complete my BS. I am just not interested in going back to clinicals and care plans. Thank you for your advice guys.

I currently work in case management and love it. I looked at the classes I would need for a BS in Health Sciences and there are a couple of classess pertainent to case management. I guess my biggest concern is if I ever leave this position, will a BS in HEalth Sciences and a RN license with 15 years nursing exprience be enough?

Are you cerified in Case Management now? There is an online course offered 3x/year for $500.00 and I still think you will be fine with a BS in another area.

I technically have only been doing case management for 1 year, so the best I can tell, I have to be active in case managemetn for 2 before I can become certified. That is something I intend to do, though. Thank you for the advice. I have a call into the admissions office to have my classes checked and to see what pre-reqs I need if any.

Experience is really what is going to get you more money. having a BS is nice if you want to go into admin or up the ladder to MSN or PHd, but it does not get you more money with just a BS. Nice if it would.

I am not necessarily looking for more money, but other opportunities. In our area, to even be considered for a school nurse position, you must have a BSN. Which makes no sense to me whatsoever.

In my area,  A.D.N nurses and BSN nurses are hired. (There are some positions like specific hire up managment positions that require a BSN.)

I have my ADN, I'm thinking of getting into a BA in healthcare management. I've spoke to a few advisors and it seems it may be helpful in the future when I want to do a different side of nursing b/c I will have my nursing degree and a management degree.

Some schools I've looked into (for the BSN degree) is a bridge program. That offers RN-BSN.  In my area some schools offered one night a week classes in a 'fast track' program.

Di- I have looked into RN to BSN. My whole reason for not going that way is because of all of the hoops that nursing school provides. I  did that years ago. I want  an advanced degree, but I guess I am too lazy to go the proper route. I have a lot of thinking to do. Maybe I'll just do my certification for case management and forgeet about the BS ;0)
