Does any one have advise on whether it is worth the while doing the LPN\LVN first vs. going straight into an RN program?

WEll,it will depend on all your obligations. If you can afford for 2-3 years to not work by all means go to RN,if not go to LPN/LVN ..graduate  save up and go back

I think depends on what u want to do with your degree or career in the future. RNs can do alot more 'clinically' speaking then an LPN can. But, it depends on what u want to do with your career. If u have a family, ect u may whant to get the LPN first, then work a bit, then bridge into an RN program.

i really would like to know what colleges everyone is going to that doesnt have a rn clinical wait list a mile long. at my school the waiting list is a downsetter and its highly competititive to get into the clinicals there. I dont make the cut to get rushed into clinicals so i'm finishing some prereqs for the BA program now (i was applying for the ASN program) this way I will be done with all my pre reqs! I am going to start lpn school when i would have been on a waiting list taking classes I don't need. this way i finish my lpn do the brigde (str8 thro because I'm done with my prereqs...) and if i decide to get my BA I wont be far because I'll be done with those prereqs also!...lpn school is not as bad or a waste of time as some people make it sound. sure everyone would love to go to nursing school and get into clinicals first try without a waiting list but not everyone can.. there are many options so just way them out for yourself..make a plan..stick to it...change it if you have to and itll b worth it one day!!!!!

Many say going to LPN/LVN is a waste..it is all quite honestly what you can afford to do..if you have family, bills, have to work..whatever.I always say continue with your education

Hello - I am an LPN, working on the RN part.  I've always wanted to be a nurse, but life came first....at 19yrs old and 2 kids, I said to myself,  when my youngest starts school, I'm going back.  NO IF'S ANDS OR BUTS!!  I started small, because I knew I couldn't devote 2 yrs to college with out working, so I went with the LPN program.  I found it to be the most wonderful thing I could have ever done.  It was a hell of a job going to school, being a mom to 2 (and 2 days into nursing school found out number 3 was on the way) but it's a choice that I am so proud to say I made.  Just because your an LPN doesn't make you any less of a nurse.  I'm going on for my RN, for more money to be honest.  I love my job, I love being an LPN.  So like everything in life, it's what you make of it, and what your able to do at the given time.

Good job Lireland..........I'm currently going for my CNA cert's and have been stuck weather to go to LPN or RN afterwards...I started off for LPN and others are saying go for RN..but like yourself i have 2 kiddos to raise up..and a busy schedule also.I just don't see how u can go wrong being a LPN...if this is your desire...you can always bridge into RN if u want or go futher...i would think that any and all experiance that one could get from the medical field would count as a plus for your education....and help you decide just what is your calling in this field of so many positions..............

It is really inspiring listening to all these stories. as for me i am still undecided. I had an appointment to take my entrance exam into an lpn program and i was pregnant. it so happened that the baby came early and on the day of the exam i was at the hospital. i rescheduled and got the last possible day to take the exam for this term and once again i could not make it because my sons baptism fell on that day. so.. i have to wait till next year. In the mean time i am doing my prereques to see if i can get into an ADN
