Posted almost 5 years ago It's been at least ten years since dealing with pressure sores on a regular basis, and I've just come across a silver dressing. Can someone tell me what it is supposed to do. The wound is on the sacrum, about six centimeters deep, and six centimeters in diameter. It is necrotic. The surgeons tried debriding but the infection came back. She is now back in a rest home. She is not for any more surgical intervention. The wound does not have much discharge. Any advice re the silver dressing would be good, plus any other tips for types of dressings to use on the wound. Thanks Bryn |

Their are several things you can do for this wound but I need some more info, % necrotic tissue, how deep, wound edges what do they look like? Drainage how much has culture been done? Let me know and I can give you several things to try, hugs patty A busy RN is here |

| Posted almost 5 years ago A silvadene dressing is good to prevent/treat certain types of bacterial and/or fungal infections. It is best for shallow wounds that are not necrotic or overly draining. A betadine wet to dry for a deep or infected wound works well. However, if she is in a nursing home, you will need a doctor's order to change her dressing orders.
I'd talk to a wound care nurse--see if the nursing home has one, or the facility where you work. There are tons of options in wound care out there these days. |
