Posted almost 5 years ago I know we all have sad moments, but sad moments that are memorable are usually ones that we have learned something, about ourselves maybe. Loosing patient's is something the we deal with often in our field. SOmetimes sharing those sad times helps use grieve . My saddest moment was a 2 year old boy named Anthony who had Neuroblastoma. We all knew he would not see his 3rd birthday. He was a champ though, never complained about anything, always smiled and loved to cuddle. When it became clear he would not see his 3rd Christmas the family and I pulled together to have Christmas in September. The fire department was great I got their help to get us snow, a company that made snow for the ski resorts agreed to make snow for the entire coldesac. First Halloween was celebrated the whole street decorated and trick or treated, the next day was Thanksgiving, the street again all participated, then a few days later we had Christmas, the fire department brought a large engine and took Anthony for a ride, snow men were made and everyone on the street decorated for Christmas, the News was their as well. As far as Anthony knew it was in fact Christmas, santa of course showed up, ANthony died 3 days later. I cried for days, my son was 2 at the time and I remember coming home and waking him up at 3 am just to hold him. This was my saddest moment in my career. A busy RN is here |

| Posted about 3 years ago 1. Thnk God in the US, hospitals will write off charges as "Charity care. My mother in law couldn't get proper basic treatment in a foreign country because no one had cash up front. Her children had to carry her in their arms to the hospital because there was no money for an ambulance. Whatever you think of "universal health care" we are VERY lucky here! 2. Elders being abused. This is why I chose to spend my career as an attorney prosecuting cases of elder abuse. I never made a lot of money, but I can look back and be proud of the vile peope I took licenses and certifications from. Every morning I had to read a stack of cases describing the most terible abuse - name callihg, tormentng, hitting, even rape and sodomy. There is no depth to which some human beings will stoop to hurt helpless victims. |
